The fourth annual holiday ba-: zaar, sponsored by Nevada General Hospital Auxiliary, will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 24, the day after Thanksgiving, and from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday. All items are hand made, some by hospital patients and many by the auxiliary members. Items available include table decoraations, Christmas tree ornaments, wall decorations, children's toys, dolls, doll cribs, pillows, tote bags, waste baskets and many personal items. Ceramics will also be for sale and dish gardens, jams, jellies and home baked goods. Alice Murray and Marcelline Fisher are chairmen for this year's bazaar. Proceeds from the bazaar are used to purchase equipment and furniture for the hospital, to be used by and for the patients. Bibi and John Carruthers are the owners of the exciting new "botique'’ and associated with them, as store manager, is Laura Sherman whose knowledge of antiques is quite impressive. Bibi, a native of Denmark who came to the United States just ten years ago, is the talented instructor in needlework, knitting, embroidery and other nimble-finger occupations or
hobbies, as you will. She conducts classes in various types of needle-craft every Friday and interested persons may call her at 273-3202 to arrange for lessons, Bibi, who has an enchanting accent, spent most of this last summer in Denmark .. and when she returned to Grass Valley she brought with her many delightful items which may be seen on display in the store now. One coffee service, in beautifully decorated chinaware attracted the writer's covetous eye.. Oh, my! She also stocks needlepoint magazines and "work kits" in myriad patters, exciting enough to lure the most blase among us. Among these kits are those for the creation of decorative pillows, tapestry-like wall hang. ings, pictorial calendars, oldfashioned “samplers," bellpulls, and a covering for a brick doorstop and many other items which would make excellent gifts for practically any occasion one could name. Bibi's opened for business in ' June of this year and store hours are from 10 a.m, until 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Until Christmas, however, customers will be served until 9 p.m. on Fridays only. John Carruthers, a long-time BIBI AND JOHN Carruthers are the owners of the exciting new botique, Bibi's Gold'n Treasures at 203 West Main Street in Grass Valley. Specialties are antiques, coins and knitting materials. coin collector, specializes in gold coins, some silver and currency. He is a professional appraiser and stocks a good line of coin guide books and "starter sets" for the novice numismatist. Included in these sets you will find "Washington Quarters," “Liberty Head". and "Morgan Type" dollars, "Indian Head" pennies and "Jefferson" nickels, to mention just a few. John is in the store on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for consultations; and is notably patient with youngsters delving intothe mysteries of money for the first time. Among the antiques on display at the time of this writing were some beautifully carved chairs, one of them a very rare post type maple rocker more than 100 years old with the original wooden pins still intact; marbletopped chests of drawers, some with stunning old mirrors which undoubtedly reflected the faces of some of our earliest settlers many times; silverware of various kinds, including an old "quad-plate" coffee pot of exquisite design and porcelain lined. It was patented May 11, 1880 by the Libby Silver Company, And, an old mint-condition Wurlitzer Juke Box which still plays very well .. it should make any collector of such items simply drool, There are dolls, also .. some of which must have been the prized possesSions of little girls in a bygone era .. these, and most of the other antiques are a special interest of Laura Sherman. And speaking of dolls .. Bibi's stocks some wonderfully constructed custom-made doll houses and the dainty, smallscaled furniture and figures needed to furnish them ..early purchase is recommended.. if you have a little girl to make completely happy this Chirstmas.
