Two special U.S. postage
stamps keyed to Christmas 1971
may be purchased at all post
offices beginning today.
The new 8 cent Christmas
stamps feature a nativity scene
and a partridge in a pear tree,
The initial printing of the nativity stamp is one billion 200
million. The partridge stamp's
first press run totals 800 million. Both stamps are subject
to additional print orders in response to public requirements.
The ‘initial value of the two
Christmas issues is $160 million. The stamps are in
separate sheets, 50 to a sheet.
They are approximately one
inch wide and one and one-half
inches high, Both are multicolored, in keeping with the
spirit of the holiday season.
In an appeal to the public to
mail early, key dates mentioned
by Grass Valley postmaster Bob
Lee, speaking for the Golden
Empire Area postmasters, for
local mailers to use as guidelines are as follows: Dec. 1,
distant packages; Dec. 10, local
packages and distant cards; and
prior to Dec, 15, all local cards.
The total Christmas mail
volume of 10 billion pieces is
expected this year, of which
nearly two billion pieces will
be handled in the western states,

1 cup grated cheese (American)
1/4 cup grated Paremesan cheese (optional)
Wash zuchini and slice-1/2 inch thick, Parboil in small
amount of salted water until nearly done. Drain and set
aside. Brown meat in skillet;
Add salt, pepper, oregano and mix well, Melt butter in sauce
pan, blend in flour. Simmer, stirring for 1 minute, Stir
in American cheese, add additional seasoning to taste.
In 2-quart casserole, arrange layer of zucchini,. Put
in 1/2 meat mix and spoon on half the cheese sauxe, Repeat
oven for 30 minutes, Serves six.

calls for over two months, The
firemen burned out a chimney in
a practice session on November
15. Tom Kelley, Larry Hammond, Bob Lemon and Ernest
"Gus" Guttermann are the newest men in the department. The
firemen will hold their election
at a business meeting on December 6, A practice session is
usually held on the third Monday
of each month.
Three men and two resuscitators responded to a call at
7:50 p.m. Saturday when John
Cockerton. suffered an attack in
his Bear River Pines home,
Prior to the arrival of firemen
a visitor revived Cockerton with
mouth to mouth resuscitation,
Firemen administered oxygen
until. the ambulance arrived,
Cockerton was later released
and allowed to return to his
home. He suffered a stroke the
following morning and was rushed to Sierra Nevada Memorial
Hospital. On Monday morning he
“was -transferred. to. Sacramento
Medical Center, .
