Hard, fast ‘stops frequently result in skids. “It takes from 3 to 12 times as far to stop on icy roads as on normal, dry pavement. Allow yourself this extra margin of’ room to avoid the necessity of making a rapid stop. “Tf a skid starts, turn the steering wheel in the direction the back end is skidding. Crittenden told of highway law enforcement problems in Calt fornia, where ten per-cent of the nation's travel is done on four per cent of the nation's highways.
