Mr. and Mrs. Richard McKenzie, heading the decoration committee this year, are using some of the products of the Workshop and a display of Christmas items will be in the foyer of the the Elk s Club Saturday night. ) Se N SATURDAY DECEMBER 3rd. 2-P.M. ‘for convenient shopping. AA OOS The Merchants Council of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce met at the Broiler last Tuesday and arranged with Santa Claus to set the time of his annual arrival in Nevada City at 2 p.m. Saturday December 3rd. He will arrive by a big red Fire Truckand make his first official stop at the park on Broad Street, across from the National Hotel. There he will greet all his admirers and pass out favors to everyone. During the afternoon he hopes to greet each child individually and talk over their Christmas needs. At five p.m. Saturday, allthe trees in the downtown area will have their lights turned on simultaneously, which will make a beautiful sight to behold. These trees, native tothe area have been carefully selected for their uniformity and beauty. Most of the stores will remain open until 9 p.m., Each evening, after Santa's official arrival, the trees will be lighted and stores remain open until 9 p.m. A German Band will be on hand Saturday to help greet Santa and to play for.the entertainment of visitors. Several groups of Carolers and the Nevada Union High School Band will sing and play at the tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. To add to the festivity, the Nevada City Police Department will issue courtesy tickets in lieu of citations for overtime parkers during the afternoon ceremonies. On Sunday the local Soroptimist club will wrap all parking meters in candy strip foil to conform to the holiday decorations. Some twenty merchants attended the meeting and uninamiously agreed to make this Christmas tree lighting ceremony the best in the tradition of making Nevada City "Christmas Tree Town." The program will be conducted, rain or shine. InGrass Valley, Santa will arrive at 10 a.m. via his familiar Fire Truck, and greet the children of Grass Valley on Mill Street. After his arrival he will stroll along the street and chat with all his little friends about the event uppermost in their minds--Christmas! ! The last week before Christmas, Santa will be in Grass Valley each day from 6 to 8 p.m. taking all those last minute toy orders, aA A Ot Christmas Art Fair Big Success Nevada City's famed Christmas Art Fair held at the Commercial Street location was a brilliant success according to Fair Officials. Visitors came from far away points to examine the crafts displayed. The art objects were particularly attractive and cash registers were kept ringing. There were many times during the two day Fair that viewers could not enter the building but had to form a line extending for half a block away.
