The result--red candystriped parking meters topped with pine cones and jaunty bows. The decorating of all city meters is the contrihution of the Soroptimists .to the community Christmas decor. The November 30 luncheon meeting will honor October, November and December birthdays of club members. The meeting will be held at Hazel's. ° e Lura Arnold : = 965-2471 Grass Valley Jaycettes Plan Christmas Party The Grass Valley Jaycettes will hold their regular meeting combined with a Christmas party, at the home of Penny Emmerling on Brock Road, Nevada City, onDec. 5. Laurene Duffy will chairman the event, assisted by Margie Allstot and Norma Rodriquez. All members and their guests are invited. Each one attending are requested to bring an exchange gift. The annual Christmas party for the California Youth Authority Boys Camp at Smartville will be held on Dec. 20, with Mary Fiscus as chairman. Karen Icenhower will be in charge of gifts. Box 1267 The Thanksgiving holidays were favored with beautiful clear, cold weather, and blue skies. A large crowd of fun seekers were on hand at nearby ski resorts which orened the past week. Many vacation home residents were also up for the holidays. Visiting the Cy Armstrongs were Mr. and Mrs. Dan Carr of Woodland Hills, Los Angeles County. * * * * The Truckee -Donner Park and Recreation Districts plan to construct a boat landing camp at the west end of Donner Lake has apparently hit a legal snag. Last week the Donner Lake Development Company notified the District that the Development Company owns the land andbed of the lake where the ramp is proposed. The County . Counsel nus ween asked to give a legal opinion on the matter. The ramp is to be constructedwith a $50,000 grant from the State Department of Small Crafts and Harbors. * * * * The first big storm of the season the weekend before Thanksgiving dropped another 2.5C inches of moisture to bring the season's total to over 7 inches. Near -blizzard conditions caused two major power failures in the Truckee area and kept utility district crews busy. County and State road crews also had their hands full clearing roads and highways in the area. * * * * Joeand Kitty Money and family have traveled to Santa Rosa for the weekend to visit friends and relatives there. Rebekah Lodge to Host Xmas Party Esther Rebekah Lodge No. 9 finalized their plans for the Christmas birthday dinner party when they held their regular meeting last Saturday evening in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Hall in Grass Valley. The dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m., Dec. 10, in the dining hall of the lodge under the chairmanship of Mrs. Mary Gage. Reservations must be made not later than Dec. 6. For reservations or further information, call Mrs. Gage at 2733141. Formals are not required. . Noble Grand Zale Johnson, who presided over last week's meeting, appointed Mrs. Mardel Wasley as chairman in charge of cookies for the shut-ins. Those making cookies should have them at Wanda's Salon, 139 Mill Street, Grass Valley, by December 21. Mrs. Zela Work of Middleton, mother of Ne: le Grand Zale Johnson was a welcome visitor at Esther Rebekah Lodge. Refreshments were served by Emily Hodgkins, Irene Hunt and

There will be no business meeting Dec. 10 Nevada City Garden Club Sets Xmas Party The Nevada City Garden Club will hold their Christmas Party at the home of Grace Miller, 130-A Pine Lane, Grass Valley, 12:30, Thrusday Dec. 8th. Members will please bring a gift, $1.00 or less, as Santa will be present. Therewill be Christmas Carols also. Co -hostesses are Nell Webster, Harriet Kettredge Muriel Fletcher and Peggy Chrysler. Deardorf spent Thanksgiving with Mrs. Deardorf's sister, Mrs. Eliot Jones, and her husband in Menlo Park. A pleasant family visit and some shopping made an enjoyable holiday for the Deardorf's *x* * * * The Jack Bixler's entertained their Granddaughter Mrs. Linda Sheridan, her husband Jim and their baby daughter Lisa over the Thanksgiving weekend. The Sheridans‘ are from the city and find a weekend in the country most enjoyable. Two year old Lisa tries to give Grandmother a hand about the kitchen. K+" ae « Mrs. Martina Paull who is not able to leave her home and not able to do much cooking ended up with two Thanksgiving Dinners. Two of her neighbors, Mrs. Frances Moore and Mrs. Helen Avery each brought her a Turkey dinner with all the trimmings. * kK * Mrs. Maud Calbert, another Rough and Ready old timer, does get around. She had Thanksgiving Dinner with the Wm Bursill family. After dinner she and Mrs. Bursill visited a former neighbor, Miss Minnie Walter, who now calls Holiday Hills home. * * KX * The Bryan Christensen's spent the holiday in Bakersfield with their son Lewis and his family. For the first time in several years both daughters, Mrs. Velda Paysonand Mrs. Evelyn Hunter, were able to join the family gathering. Unhappily the gathering was still incomplete. «other contestants. There are three Grandsons away in the Armed Services. * * kK * The Rough and Ready Grang. held its November Public Party on the 26th. There was a big holiday crowd out fora good time. The next evening party will be January 28, 1967. The Grange is sponsoring an Afternoon Party Dec. 11th from 1 to 4 P.M. * * * * Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wood are at home again in Rough and Ready. Janie Trueblood Wood plans to finish High School, and new husband Steve is back at work. The Young Couple were married November 12th, They plan to make their home in Grass Valley while Steve is waiting his draft call. * * * * Miss Lexie Pease and young Wm Bursill will be married on Dec. 26th at the Methodist Church in Grass Valley. The wedding reception will be held in Wesley Hall. Lexie and Bill attended HighSchool here. Lexie is now attending Dental College in Sacramento. She will graduate on Dec. 16th. Bill is a junior at Sacramento State majoring in Recreation. Bill hopes to be able to finish school but, like all our young men, he is anticipating his draft call almost immediately. * * * * cne of our young neighbors, Miss Georgia Capps is a contestant in the G.V, Jaycees Junior Miss Pageant. For the talent portion of the pageant Georgiaia plans to presentan original comedy dance. She says her real talents, horseback riding, bread baking, and sewing are things she can't demonstrate. She will also parade ina formal’ and do exercises in dance form with the 11 Georgia hopes to attend Sacramento State College. Oneof the ScholarShips to be awarded in this contest would come in handy. Women’s Card Group to Meet The Nevada County Women's Card Group will meet at twelve noon, Dec. 7, in the Veterans Memorial Building, Grass Valley. Not only are all members urged to attend, but anyone in the area who is interested in contract City. Guardian Neighbor bridge or Boliviaare weSybil Ridinger will preside. lcome to partic ipate. Those attending this interesting card group, which meets the first Wednesday of each month, are asked to bring their own sandwich and table service. Dessert will be furnished by the hostesses, Mary Lawson and Harriet Nettell will be hostesses for the Dec. 7 meeting.
