Warns about
power lines
Don't lay your life on the line,
Pacific Gas and Electric Company warns,
When working with high rising
equipment, show a lot of respect for power lines.
Cranes, booms, scaffolding,
drilling rigs, hay derricks, nut
shakers and irrigation pipe become dangerous electrical conductors when they touch overhead power lines, PG&E says.
Before installing television
antennas, be sure that guy lines,
masts and antenna will not come
into contact with any power lines,
Don't raise irrigation pipe until you are certain the pipe will
not come into contact with any
power line.
Play it safe. Never move construction rigs with the boom up,
or lift pipe, or shake nuts from
trees without first checking for
the location of power lines.
State law makes it a misdemeanor, punishable by fine or
imprisonment, or both, to operate any tool or equipment within six feet of power lines.
If it becomes necessary to
operate equipment within the six
foot limit, notify the nearest
PG&E office and arrange for the
line to be de-energized or
moved, the company says.
Remember, look up — and look
out for power lines. It could
save your life.
