PAMELA ROBINSON checks the rainfall at Pioneer Park. She is the official weather observer
for Nevada City. Temperatures and rainfall is taken at this location.
NevadaCityweather scene
There's a sparkling new personality on the local scene and
here name is Pamela Robinson.
In private life she is Mrs. Blair
Robinson..and she "does her
thing" for the City of Nevada
City as its official Weather ObServer at the station out in
Pioneer Park,
It sounds quite simple when
one says that “Pamela takes

, some furniture which Blair has
readings twice a day, at 7:30
a.m. and again at 3:30 p.m."
But there's more to the story
that began with a series of events which started last June.
It was then that Blair and
Pamela left their home down
in Dana Point and came to Nevada County to seek a new home
and employment.
Blair was employed by the
Nevada City Maintenance Department within a week of their
arrival, About a month later
Pamela, age 20, was hired to
operate the Weather Station and
learned that a comforable home
with the job..on the
grounds of Pioneer Park, directly opposite Seamans Lodge.
She was also assigned to handle
_ reservations for the various organizations and _ individuals
wanting to make use of the
Lodge.
To say that the young Robinsons were overjoyed at their
dual good fortune is putting it
rather mildly..they were, quite
naturally, estatic!
So, they arranged to move
itheir houshold effects up here
‘and soon had the new home char‘mingly furnished with an interesting assortment of antiques;
created from various kinds of
woods; a part of Pamela's cherished doll collection (there
‘wasn't room for all of her dolls
so some had to be left with her
mother down South)..and three
pet cats! One of the latter is
named ‘'Nicodemous" and is unique in that he has seven toes
on each of his front feet!
Pamela received her training for the weather observation
duties from Mrs. Yvonne Adamswho resides across the street
from the Park and who had been
handling the job since last April.
This was Pamela's first such
experience, but she took to the
work with a verve and energy
that immediately satisfied all o!
the job requirements. .officially
on August Ist.
Every day at 7:30 inthe morning and at 3:30 in the afternoon,
Pamela takes the short walk across the wide driveway between
her home and Seamans Lodge,
Then she carefully checks the
devices which measure daily
precipitation and two delicately
adjusted themometers from
which minimum and maximum temperature readings are
obtained.
This is done regardless of
weather conditions and admittedly it is not a matter of
great discomfort in good
weather..but will take a bit
of doing with ice and snow
on the ground, or in a heavy
rainstorm. Pamela knows all
of this and is well prepared by
temperament and attitude to cope
with the job promptly and efficiently.
The night of witches and goblins is over with for another year .
and I feel certain that we are
not alone in being glad. The fun
of years gone by has turned
into michief that is not of a good
nature. The little children are
really comical in their costumes and they have such a good
time, but as in everyting, there
are those who will spoil a good
thing. The rain over. the weekend was most welcome and so
was the sun which greeted us on
Sunday morning. Our family
took in the newly opened Mall
in Linda on Saturday afternoon
and browsed through the shops,

Bob and Barbara Nix occupied the guest house at Ellie
Pettigrew's over the last weekend while waiting for the house
they will be moving into at Lake
of the Pines, to be vacated. I'm
so glad these nice folks are
moving back into the county.
