Our drought was definitely ended on Sunday,
but not before another
outside fire occurred on
the property ofaMr.
Mize, who lives off of the
Bridgeport Road.
The small fire started
in an ash heap near the
house, and was extinguished in about 45 minutes. Both trucks responded again, with 16
firemen. There were no
injuries.
According to Chief Gene
Hatten, the only nonroutine feature of this
fire was the fact that it
was not discovered and
i toh by Mr. Mize.
Instead, the smoldering
and expanding fire was
noticed and reported by
the Mc Lachlin family,
who live about a quarter
of a mile away.
During the bazaar on
Nov. 5, the siren was
activated at about 4:35
p.m. Some of the men
must have been on hand.
Even though our firemen
are speedy, they hada
great deal of "head start"
this time.By the way,
the 'fire-belles" were
quite successful with
their bazaar effort.
Thenext regular meeting is scheduled for 7:30
p.m. on November 15.

a commanding view for
360 degrees; their nearest neighbors being coyotes. The Karis have four

John Kari is a prime
example of a "jack-ofall-trades."" The following is an inventory of
his occupational experience, and is not allinclusive: cattle ranching, milk products delivery, newspaper circulation, ready -mixed pancakes, oil field laborer,
food market produce,
truck driver, and doorto-door selling of sewing
machines and vacuum
cleaners, Presently,
he is employedasa
combination quality control inspector and mechanic at Loma Rica Airport, but frankly admits
that he is still searching
for his vocational niche
in life. If John had his
choice, he said he would
i prefer tobea self-employed cattle rancher.
And although he likes people, crowds make him
nervous.
Mrs. Kari's hobby is
sewing. For the past
year she has faithfully
taught Sunday School for
children of the junior high
age level,
Off the job, Kariis an
addict toward gun collecting, and reloads his ownammuhition. Heis proud
of a one-hundred year old
Confederate sabre, which
has a 313 inch blade. It
was given to him by his
grandfather. John Kari
is also a do-it-yourself
craftsman, building his
own wooden cabinets and
. cribbage boards. Besides
allthis, he sings occasionally in his church choir
and writes auto-biographical poems,
