Johnson wants action on pending pension legislation WASHINGTON, D.C. — Citing pleas from disenfranchised pension plan Northern California Congressman Harold T. (Bizz) Johnson has urged quick action on pending pension legislation. His appeal was contained in a letter to Acting Chairman Al Ullman of the House Committee on Ways and Means who has set a mid-October target date for House action on the proposal. Both the Ways and Means Committee and the House Education and Labor Committee are working on the members, Employee Benefit Security Act which would correct deficiencies in some _ pension plans and _ protect the employee’s investment in the plan. On too many occasions, Congressman Johnson noted, an employee leaving a company after several years of service finds that in spite of continuing contributions to the retirement fund by both -he and _ his employer, the worker ends up with virtually nothing. Congressman Johnson personal emphasized that the contributions to a pension plan by an employer is considered a portion of wages which is set aside for payment in the retirement years. ‘Since these wages are earned, it is only right that they be returned after retirement,” Congressman Johnson declared. Congressman Ullman had asked Congressman Johnson for and . constituent comments on the legislation prior to October 1st. The short deadline was to permit early action by the Committee. rewé
