According to reports, she had playing with friends when the tree climbing began. She was apparently unharmed from the ordeal and had a big smile for rescuers, who gave her an ice cream cone when she was returned to her parents. Halcomb III as an undercover, agent, without portfolio, for the Nevada County Sheriff's Department was evidentally, through legal technicality, a fact according to a ruling by District Attorney Harold A, Berliner and public statements made by Berliner and Sheriff Wayne Brown, Brown and Berliner furnished public statements to the Grass Valley Elementary School Board last Tuesday night, climaxing a long controversy involving the school teacher, contacts he made with a deputy sheriff and a marijuana raid made Aug, 23, “Halcomb was working with one of the deputy sheriffs, He had contact with one of the deputy sheriffs and was working ‘with him," the county sheriff told the school board and others assembled at the meeting. result of an accident on Highway 49 about 12:30 p.m. Dead is John Henry Chitwood, 31, of Campbell, Injured in the accident near the South Yuba River are Howard Miller, 37, of San Jose and Roger W. Shannon, 31, of Milpitas, Miller suffered a fractured shoulder and Shannon, who was reported as driver by the California Highway Patrol, was treated at Miners Hospital and released, The highway patrol report said that excessive speed through a series of sharp curves caused the fatal accident, The vehicle veered off the highway into an outcropping of rock, the report said, Chitwood was married and a veteran of the Korean War. A native of Clovis, N. M. he was a member of the Operating Engineers Union and had lived in California for 27 years, Investigating officers turned their report of the accident over to the district attorney for further determination, HOST GRAND OPENING--Ann and Fred Angellini A parade scheduled to begin at li a.m., will herald the event, which will start at the Broad Street "Y" in Nevada City, then proceed to Sacramento Street “and then out to the Grass ValleyNevada City Highway to Grass Valley and to the County Fair Grounds. Man Sentenced A Sacramento man, John Bailey, 45, was sentenced to the Department of Corrections for a 90-day observation period Oct, 3, by Superior Court Judge John F, Keane of Sierra County, sitting in Nevada County Court, Bailey had pleded guilty to possession of heroin and requested probation. will host a Grand Opening Thursday at their Western Auto Store on Pine Street in Nevada City.
