Gala Ball Becomes
Reality October 28
Reservations are due by Saturday, Oct, 14, for the 1967 Golden
Gala Ball, the elegant Black-tie
event slated for Oct, 28. The
early and enthusiastic response
to the benefit ball invitations
holds promise that it willbe even

two galas,

A buffet supper, with a varied
menu of hot and cold dishes will

Garden Club Meet
The next meeting of the Nevada City Garden Club will be
held at 12:30 p.m., on Thursday,
Oct. 12 at the home of Adelaide
Elliott on Bloomfield Road, Nevada City, instead of at Hulda
Kopp's home as originally
planned,

of theirrecent Canadian Tour
with slides and narration by

Esther Rebekahs Meet
Esther Rebekah Lodge will
honor all Past Noble Grands
and Past Grands when they convene at 8 p.m., October 14, in
the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows Hall, 1101/2 Mill Street,
Grass Valley, Noble Grand Edna
Rudd will preside,
All officers and members are
urged to attend this meeting as
it will also be the first nomination of officers for the coming
year,
Music for the Golden Gala Ball will be provided
by the Buddy Harpham orchestra -— twelve pieces plus lovely Miss Lynn Steiner as vocalist, and
by the lively Red Garter Jazz Band, with both
groups playing simultaneously in the two dance
areas of thé Grass Valley Elks Lodge. —
Observing a workshop trainee at the task of
hand-hooking are Mrs. William C. Briggs, Mrs.
Weston W. Brunker, Mrs. Michael L. Good, and
Mrs. Vernon Stoll. The Golden Gala Ball, now in
its third year, is a major source of income for the
Nevada County Community Workshop, which
offers work and training to the handicapped so
that they may become wholly or in part self-supporting. David Mills Studio

Plans Plaque Placing
Ceremony
Plans have been finalized for
the official visit of Grand President June Titus Goldie, of San
Gabriel Valley No, 281 Parlor
of the Native Daughters of the
Golden West, to the Laurel Parlor No. 6, Manzanita Parlor No.
29, and the Sierra Pines Parlor,
on October 18,
The cermonies will begin at
4:30 p.m. with the dedication of
a new plaque being placed at the
entrance of the Pioneer Cemetery, West Broad Street, Nevada
City, by the Native Sons and
Daughters of Nevada City, Grand
President June Goldie will officiate at this ceremony, Esther
McCluskey and Elza Kilroy,
chairmen for the marking of
historic landmarks, have worked
long toward this project, This
historic cemetery has many
names of pioneers of this area
and is visited yearly by tourists
Here
and old friends of the community
and the placing of this plaque will
add to the interest and attractiveness of the cemetery.
A catered dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m,, in the banquet
hall of the Nevada City Veterans
Memorial Building, with Lenore
Coughlin as chairman of the Nevada City, Grass Valley, and
Colfax committee for the arrangements, Reservations for the
dinner must be in by October 14,

Laurel Parlor will not only
host the official visit, but will
conduct the initiation ceremonjes. Manzanita Parlor will do
the opening and Sierra Pines
Parlor the closing ceremonies
of the meeting.
Light refreshments will be
served at the close of the evening.
