University of California
Q. Can I use aluminum foil
in the oven as an aid to cleaning?
A, Care must be taken when
using aluminum foil in the oven
or oven damage may result, A
sheet of foil may be placed on
the shelf below the one used for
baking to catch spills from pies
and casseroles that run over,
Foil should be about one inch
larger than the dish holding the
-food. Never cover an entire shelf
because this will cause an uneven heat circulation, If desired,
a sheet of foil may be used under
the bake unit to line the oven
floor, but it must not touch the .bake unit,
Q. Can grapes be frozen?
A. Yes, but the are satisfactory only for pies, juices and
jellies or in mixed fruits, Seedless grapes can be left whole,
Table grapes with seeds should
be cut in half and the seeds removed, The grapes to be used
for juice or jelly can be frozen
without sweetening.
Q. Is there any way I can
brighten my aluminum pots that
have darkened?
A. Yes,there are several
methods, You can cook an acid
food such as rhubarb, tomatoes
or tart apples in the pots, The
foods are edible and safe, Or
you can boil a solution of 1
Tablespoon vinegar per 1 quart
of water in the pan for 10 minutes, Avoid letting salty foods
or liquids stand in aluminum pots
or pans as this may pit the
metal,
