County, 26 cases were added to
the public assistance rolls during
February, while 18 were discontinued, California Taxpayers association reported today.
Included in the cases added
during the month were 15 persons
on the gid to-thé needy aged rolls,
7, ebildren on the aid to needy
children rolls, and 4 cases on general county relief. General county
relief may include one or more
persons in each case; other kinds
of relief are individual persons,
the association jointed out.
During February. 1947—a year
ago—a total of 29 cases were added to the relief rolls of the county, while 15 cases were discontinued, the association reported.
During August, 1947, midway
between the two Februarys, 31
cases were added tto the relief
rolls and 27 cases were discontinued.

For Mrs. Mary A. Watson
DOWNIEVILLE; Funeral services will be held Thursday
morning, April 22nd, at 10 A.M.
in the Downieville Catholic
Church for Mrs. Mary A. Watson
who died Sunday morning at her
home here. The funeral services
will be in charge of the Holmes
Funeral Home of Nevada City.
Interment will be in the Downieville Cemetery.
Mrs. Watson had been bedridden for thirty years. She was
born in this city 82 years ago and
had lived here all her life. She
was the widow of the late Andrew Watson. There are no known
surviving members of her family.

NORTH SAN JUAN: The Mill
Creek Lumber Company of North
San Juan was the successful bidder on two million feet of public
timber in the Camptonville area,
according to Robert Dasmann, As‘sistant Forest Supervisor of: the
Tahoe National Forest. Prices bid
on this timber are the highest on
record in this Forest: Ponderosa
Pine sold for $15.50 per thousand
board feet, sugar pine $20.00,
White fir. $8.00, Douglas fir $9.00
and Incense cedar $7.50.
Other sales made recently include three million feet to the
Cal-ida’ Lumber Company in the
Brandy City area and one million
feet to the Builders and Consumers Lumber Company in the Skillman Flat area on State Highway
Route. 20. All sales were awarded
on a competitive bid basis.
Dasmann stated that the Tahoc
Forest plans to make several more
small sales aggregating seventeen
million feet this summer. He
stated that he is planning on a
total cut of forty million feet of
public timber on the Tahoe National Forest during the year 1948.
He explained that all public
timber in the National Forest is
being cut on a continuous yield
basis.

of officers Thursday, April 15,

GRASS VALLEY: The Spanish
language classes of the Grass
Valley High School presented a
Pan American assembly under direction of their instructor, Mrs.
Elizabeth Reid.
There was a colorful flag presentation of the 21 nations, followed by a question and answer
period conducted by Don Stevenson and John Berryman dressed
in white shirts, trousers and colored sombreros, with red and
black sashes. _
There was an English version
of She and the Moon, presented
first in English and next in Spanish. Jack Skeahan was the hero
of a mock bullfight in which he
impersonated the matador assisted by two picadors. The last
event Was a ‘Mexican fiesta in
which all students of Spanish
Participated. Music for the program was played by John Cron.
