This Is Planning?
It is not surprising that members of the
Nevada City Planning Commission are unhappy over the appearance of the new gas
station on the corner of Sacramento and
South Pine Streets. The station's big sign
and bright lights are obviously out of
keeping withthe nature of residential zone
inwhichitis located.-At the virtual gateway to Nevada City,
sore to the entering
the stationis an eyemotorist.
But it is surprising that commission
members feel the y "got took" by the
station's owner. It is not the owner's fault
that he applied for and received a zoning
variance for this location. It is not his
fault that he has put up a big sign to advettise his product. Apparently there is
some feeling that the owner was bound to
advertise a different kind of gas witha
‘different kind of sign’.
The truth is, though, that changes in the
sign or the brand of gas would make little
difference. Ifthe
