THE BEAUTIFUL LAND Fall Ushers In A Season Of Activity And Natural Color Pour years ago Sunset Magazine featured Nevada City and the brilliant display of fall color tobe seen inthe city at this time of year. The following year the Nevada City Chamber took up the idea of drawing visitors here in the autumn. The idea of the Fall Festival and color spectacular was born. The next year, the Nugget, taking advantage of the natural beauty and the interest in an Autumn Event that had been arousedby visitors, natives and the merchants, published the first Fall Festival Edition in color. Last year the Chamber created a series of walking and driving tours in and around the city.. These combined both the fall colors and selected views of some: of the best and most interesting parts of the old gold town. The Nugget again took advantage of the eaine bration by offering its readers comprehensive maps of the tours and selected pictures to aid the visitor in deciding on and seeing the best the city had to offer in the autumn. — That.seeond annual Fall Festival Edition brought fame tothe city andto the Nugget when the California Newspaper Publishers Association awarded the Nugget first prize for the best special edition. It is that time of year again and the Chamber has again planned several events to mark the coming of the fall season. The annual Trade Pair, the Chamber's photography contest and Golden Autumn House Tour sponsored by the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Auxiliary have all been scheduled for next Saturday to kick off the festival. The leaves are just beginning to turn and should be at their peak of color this weekend. There is a bite to the air in the mornings and evenings that was not there a few weeks ago. Nevada County, and Nevada City especially, offer the dual benefits of allowing the visitor a chance to enjoy the color and season in the atmosphere of the old gold town days. The Nugget, inthis Third Fall Festival Edition, offers a pictorial album of Nevada County. Some of the views are current, some are of things which have virtually disappeared from the local scene. All are combined in this edition to display the beauty of the county from several points of view. Nevada City is also especially fortunate to have been founded by a few far sighted pioneers who brought fruit trees and hardwoods with them. The results of these efforts can now be enjoyed in the splashes of color to be seen locally among the pines. The lover of autumncan travel. in almost any. directionand find color and beauty coupled with the nostalgia of old California.
