October 14, 1965...Nevada County Nugget... G9 Governor Edmund G, Brown announced last week that he has appointed Eugene P, Foster, 32, of Truckee, andreappointed Gail Gordon, of Grass Valley, to the board of directars of the 17th District Agricultural Association. Foster. succeeds Clarence Osburn of Truckee, whose term expired. "Iam very happy to appoint Eugene Foster tothis Fair Board,“ Governor Brown said. “I know he will do a good job for the district. Gail Gordon has served Construction To Begin At Sierra College Construction of the fifth major building within two years will begin at Sierra College this fall, President Harold Weaver has announced, Plans for the Science building addition are now before the state board of architecture, and bids are expected to be called this fall, thanks to the availability of more than a quarter of a million dollars from the state bond issue of a year ago, Weaver said the college can receive over atwo year period its allocation of the state bond issue totalling $260,000. The amount is somewhat less than expected because of larger growth statewide by relatively poorer districts, Weaver said. Current construction at the college includes an administration building nearing completion, an Industrial Technology anda Mechanical DraftingClassroom building in the foundation stage, an d a cafeteria expansion ready to go to bids, The basic campus was built in 1961 for a capacity of 1,000 students. Division of Highways, District II, atthe Truckee Maintenance Station, is a native of Nevada City and received his secondary education there, Foster served in the Navy for four years in Korea and Japan as a 2nd class Boatswain's Mate during the Korean War. Foster is a member of the Truckee Volunteer Fire Department andthe Truckee Chapter of E Clampus Vitus. A Democrat, he and his wife, Patricia, have three children. They live at Box 634, Truckee. Gordon, a native of Oklahoma, is executive secretary of the Sierra Nevada Foothills District Council of Carpenters in Grass Valley. Gordon served as a trustee on the Union Hills School Board in the late 40's and is a member of the Masons, Ben Ali Temple in Sacramento and Masonic organizations in Grass Valley. For two years he has served as president on the Fair Board, He has served on this board since 1952 when Governor Earl Warren appointed him.
