NORTHERN MINES & CALIFORNIA REPORTS BRA EHSHIIGH ROHS UFR EE Ht HEHE et oF ee et tHE et OF Water Job Nears Final Work Stages The Nevada Irrigation District's massive Yuba-Bear River hydroelectric project is now entering the final stages of construction. Figures released this week in the 28th progress report issued by project managers, Ebasco Services, Inc., for the period ending Sept. 30, indicate the project now stands 95 per cent complete. 2 During the period there was an average construction force of 225 men. Of the approved project cost of $59,763,960, a total of $51, 168,604 had been expended, . The completion date is set for Dec, 31. Good construction weather during September made possible continuation of the progress on the project. Work in the Upper Division sites inthe mountains is essentially complete. ' Jackson Meadows Dam is 99 per cent complete. The dam valve operation was tested preparatory to starting the release of water from Jackson Meadows through the Upper Division system this month. Release of water from Jackson Meadows will replenish storage at Bowman Lake for délivery to the downstream powerhouses during the testing period and for winter operations. The Bow man-Spaulding Conduit is now listed as 99 per cent complete. ~ The Dutch Flat powerhouse project on Bear River is now 94 percentcomplete, At theintake tunnel concreting of the flume intake structure was completed, the gates and trash racks and screens installed and the gate hoists and hoist structures installed. The metalcontrol build has been erected and preparations made to install the electrical control system. On the flume project, the outlet structure for the Stump Canyon Siphon was completed as well as the gunited transition from the outlet to the Dutch Flat canal leading to the forebay. Pulling of the communications cable paralleling the flume is 60 per cent complete. At the powerhouse, the alignment of the turbine and generator was. completed. The coolers, lubrication system, draft tube gates and draft tube extension liner were installed The Chicago Park powerhouse development is 94 per cent complete. Installation of control and measuring devices along the flume is largely complete. The guniting of the canal and the Chicago Park Forebay was completed. The penstock is also complete. At the powerhouse site the generator rotor was assembled and set in position. Assembly of the turbine parts and installation of accessory equipment continued, # SIXTH DISTRICT Assemblyman Gene Chappie presents Dale Stanley of Grass Valley‘’s Troop 57 with his Eagle badge. Final Fair Figures Show Attendance Increase Of 3000 Over Last Year There have been many activities at the Nevada County District Fairgrounds since the closing of the Fair. Final figures show 46,193 people visited the popular four day event, an increase of 3,000 in attendance over 1964 and nearly triple the number of Fair visitors since the 1957 figure of 22,000, Three days after the close of the 1965 Fair, SecretaryManager Malcolm E. Hammil1 and his staff had mailed out over $20, 000 in premium checks; the greatest percentage going‘to residents of Nevada County. Payrolls for the over 100 fair employees were mailed, the August books closed and the budget for 1966 was started and worked upon by the manager and fair board through the month of September, and presented to the Division of Fairs and Expositions, On Monday, October 4th the manager was called in to go over the budget and in exactly one hour and thirty minutes after going over every figure with budget analysts the 1966 budget was approved, Immediately an engineer visited the fairgrounds, made a survey of Lions’ Lake parking lot which is to be surfaced this year and took the measurements of the Grandstand that will be enclosed on back and sides and is preparing plans and specifications so bids may be called for right after January 1. An early completion of these projects is hoped for before the busy summer season begins.
