Politics is getting abit rougher as the town of Washington
prepares to elect its alcalde.
Pat Ryan, a Johnny-comelately resident, is trying to take
over the top spot from Tom
Walsh, hostelry operator and
member ofthe Washington Water
District board.
When Pat moved to the South
Yuba community a short time ago
he was unanimously selected
Sanitary Engineer Third Class
and began faithfully aiding Chief
Mel Wolf in the proper disposal
of the town's castoffs,
Everything was going fine, Pat
reported, until Sunday, That was
when he inexplicably stayed in
the sack a bit longer than usual,
So, what happened? Well, according to Mr. Ryan, Mr. Wolf
didn't take kindly to his tardiness. As a result, Pat has been
suspended and may lose his poSition.
Was the suspension due entirely to his oversleeping? Mr.
Ryan thinks not. He sees it as
a political move to disparage
him at the November 11 alcalde
election. Ryan said the opposition had to do something to
halt. his "runaway" campaign.
Ryan claims he had at least 75
per cent of the votes in his
pocket until Sunday. Now, he
says, there's a whispering cam-.
paign going on, Everytime he
walks down Main Street people
stop to point at him, saying
"there goes the guy that slept
in.”
Ryan says it's not like him
to.ever be late for anything, and
he suspects his Saturday night
libation was doctored up with
sleeping pills. Now, he says,
he's going to have to explain
to the voters why he was tardy
and why they shouldn't let that
deprive them of the best alcalde
Washington ever will have.
