Jr. Miss Pageant
ZO ANN SCHUCKERT is the 1972-73 Grass Valley Junior Miss. The Nevada Union
graduate received a $350 scholarship from the Grass Valley Jaycees. She is
currently studying at California State University, Sacramento. =
GV Jaycees host event 8th time
The 8th annual Junior Miss
Pageant, sponsored by the
Grass Valley Jaycees, is
scheduled for November 17 in
the Veterans Memorial Building
in Grass Valley.
Jr. Miss isn’t a beauty contest
but rather one of all around
excellence. The girls are judged
on poise and appearance, youth
fitness, scholastic
achievement, personal
interview with the judges,
creativity and performance on
the stage.

January in Santa Rosa and other
functions
at California State University,
Sacramento.
Winner of the Jr. Miss contest
is awarded a $350 scholarship
while the first runner-up gets
$150 and the second runner-up
$50. In addition there are
numerous other prizes for
winners of each of the categories.

be visiting Nevada Union this
week to talk to interested girls.
The competition is open to all
senior girls. Time and place of
the meeting will be announced in
the school bulletin.

Veterans Day
The American Legion will host
the local area’s veterans
organization Oct. 22, the 1973
Veterans’ day.
The first Veterans’ Day
during peace time in nearly a
decade starts with a breakfast
served by Bud Painter and his
crew. Frank Gallino and Bill
Lawrence will serve their
famous beverage.
Parade chairman Charley
Yaunkin requests that any
groups or
organizations who wish to:

parade will form at the Cramer
lot and at 10 a.m. march along
Main Street. to Mill, Neal

and Mrs. Robert Stewart of
Oakland were in town ona brief
visit to friends and his old home
here.
Mr. and Mrs. E. W. McCarroll
of Reno were in town last week
visiting friends. They are former residents. He worked for
the Forest Service for several
years at the local station.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Frankovich were recent visitors
in Loomis.
Alex Hume of Burbank
arrived last week and will spend
some time at his summer home
here.
Mr. and Mrs. John Pettit of
Hayward spent the weekend
with his sister and family and
moving up their expando mobile
home to be placed on his lot
here.
Paul Rist left Wednesday for
San Diego to enter boot camp of
the U. S. Navy.
Mr. and Mrs. Earle W. Davis,
Jr. and sons Paul and James, of
Castro Valley, spent the
weekend at their summer home
here.
. CAMPTONVILLE, October 9
— Charles. B. Read, Jr. a
structural engineer of Tustin,
was in town Wednesday. His
grandmother, Mrs. Kate Hope
Livingston, taught high school
here in the thirties when he
visited her as a child.

Jerry Lawrence of San Jose
spent the weekend visiting his
family at their summer home on
the old Alleghany Road.
John E. Everett was recently
hospitalized for a heart attack
and is now convalescing.
Mr. and Mrs.: Myron Pauly of
Red Bluff spent the weekend
here with his mother Mrs. Grace
Pauly.
George L. Rose of San Lorenzo
spent the weekend here on a
hunting trip.
Don Humphrey made a brief
business trip to San Francisco
last week.
Mrs. Warren N. Pauly of
Meridian, Idaho was in town on
a brief visit with relatives. Her
mother, Mrs. Veda Kessler, who
has been visiting with her in
Idaho, returned and is staying
with her daughter Mrs. Walter
Winebarger.
The Hanson house on
Cleveland Avenue narrowly
escaped a bad fire Thursday
morning when smoke was
noticed emerging from the
porch roof. The Camptonville
Volunteer Fire Department
responded and soon had it under
control; the local Forest Service
truak also came to add their
assistance had it become
necessary. Mr. and Mrs. Dale
Clark reside in the house.
The rain over the weekend ©
brought 1.70 inches of rainfall.
The season total is up to 3.70 ~~
inches.
SAVORY HAM LOAF
Here’s a tasty treat for the whole family to enjoy. It may be
served hot out of the oven or chilled and sliced for really elegant
sandwiches or used as “‘cold cuts” for informal patio suppers.
INGREDIENTS: :
4 slices stale bread cubed
% cup skimmed milk
2 lbs ground ham
% cup pure maple syrup
1% tablespoons prepared brown mustard
3 tablespoons wine vinegar
3 tablespoons minced onion (Optional)
2 eggs, beaten well
PREPARATION: Place bread in large mixing bow! and soften
with milk. Add ham and mix well. Add syrup, mustard, vinegar,
onion and egg and mix again very thoroughly. Shape into loaf in
baking dish and bake at 300 degrees for approximately 2 hours.
May be mixed and
as a hot. dish; when
until ready. to bake. Yield: 10-12 servings
for 12-16 sandwiches or
