How Did ‘Spectacular’ Begin :
The Fall Spectacular? How did
it begin?
Three years ago, Sunset Magazine featured the spectacular Fali
of the Sierra Nevada range, centering its lengthy article in Nevada City.
Long aware of the beauty of
Fall, local residents that year
became aware that numerous residents of other areas in California
did not yet realize that colors such
as are on display here can be seen
in California.
Sunset Magazine made them
aware, and thousands of Sunset
readers toured the area in late
October and November.
Nevada City Chamber of Commerce members noted that these
visitors came as a result of publicity freely given by Sunset Magazine, and the chamber's directors decidedto formalize the annual change of season and make
sure that others heard of the
event.
Last year was the first such.

chamber promotion of the Fall
Spectacular, although a number
of years before the chamber had
also publicized the seasonal
change.
This year the Nevada City
Chamber of Com merce was undergoing an orgahizational shakeup at the time when plans needed
to be implemented for the 1963
Fall Spectacular. The Nevada
County Nugget volunteered to
proceed with the printing of publicity sheets.
‘EVER GREEN ...Green trees remain throughout the year, even as Nevada
County celebrates the coming of Fall, as these Cedars exhibit in a nearby
“back yard".

AREA RESIDENTS SHOW
COLORFUL COUNTY ASSET
Pride of ownership is evident in Nevada County
each Fall.
Localresidents claimtitle to the annual spectacular coloring of the Sierra hillsides, and they
share their enthusiasm with the largest extended
influx of guests that the county boasts.
It is the rare local resident that hasn't a full
house each weekend during Nature's spectacular
exhibit of colors, and it is the rare visitor who
sees and fails to vow to return---for another Fall
or frequently “as soon as I can afford to move
here"
Fall, is only one among many as a season,
reasons why newcomers are making their homes
in: Nevada County. But Fall is a visual experience, one that can be shared.
Therefore, Nevada County residents during
the next month will have a welcome mat out for
close friends and casual visitors
Pardon our pride, but enjoy the reason for it.
