A Glimpse of Wine
History
Wine is as old ‘as civilization. It was made in China
before 2000 B.C. The writings of the Greeks, Romans
and historians through the
ages refer to wine as an
important part of life,
health and happiness. It is
mentioned 165 times in the
Bible. Wine spread with
civilization through Ecrope
and later America. It was
a part of the life of the
Spaniards in Mexico, As the
Jesuit fathers carried the
Spanish colonization into
Lower California, and later
moved into the present
State cf California, vines
were planted as an initial
step in civilization. In California the Mission fathers
found their vines flourished.
Soon commercial growers,
aware of. the potential to
be found under California
climate and within her soil,
planted vineyards, and the
California wine industry
was born.
