State sales tax will remain 5 per cent
California's sales and use tax,
twice scheduled to drop this
year, will continue at the 5%
rate -at least until next July-in most of the state, Member
Paul Leake of the State Board
of Equalization confirmed today.
The City of Los Angeles, however, will have an additional 1%
sales tax effective October 1, for
six months.
And Los Angeles City and
County voters will decide
November 5 whether to permit
a one-half percent sales tax
later for rapid transit. The rapid transit tax would become
effective April 1, 1969 when the
special city sales tax ends.
The state and local sales tax,
once set to drop July 1 of this
year to 4 1/2% and then postpened until Oct. 1 unless property tax relief was enacted, now
will remain at 5% unless the
property tax relief proposition
--1-A--fails on the November
ballot.
Under the Constitutional
Amendment (Prop. 1-A) placed
before the voters by the 1968
Legislature, the statewide sales
tax will drop to 4 1/2% on July
1, 1969, if the Amenc™ment loses,
Leake said, ;
Nat’! 4-H Week
4-H improves the employability of youth through useful work
projects, by teaching positive
attitudes toward work, by
stressing the importance of
marketable skills and credentials, and by helping youth
to explore a wide range of educational and career possibilities.
Nearly all of the 4-H projects and associated, activities
are referred to as project work.
Each provides an opportunity for
sampling many work-related
situations and brings young
October 6 to 12
people into direct association
with experienced adults engaged
in related activities, Each project also has built-in stages of
proficiency and challenge. These
educational projects are the code
around which "learning by doing" experiences are built, The
typical 4-H participant enrolls
in three projects per year. Overall, 4-H'ers are enrolled in
7,000,000 projects annually in
the nation.
Modern business, industry,
agriculture, education and social services require specific
occupational skills.
