United Nations
Day program
on Oct. 24
A public program for United
Nations Day, Oct. 24, is being
sponsored by the Baha'i Community of the Golden Empire.
It will be held at the Grass
Valley Veterans Memorial Hall,
in the meeting room behind the
stage at 2 p.m.
Speaker will be Jules R. Vautrot. He will speak on the theme
for this year's Baha'i observance of United Nations Day:
"Justice — The Basis of Unity."
Professor Vautrot of the Chico ,
State College faculty has traveled widely in Asia, South
America, and Central America.
He teaches International Health
and Environmental Health at
Chico State and is familiar with
the role of the U.N. agencies
in caring for the health of people in the underdeveloped countries,
This year has been designated
by the United Nations as the
International. Year for Action

Discrimination. Referring tothe
Year, U Thant, secretary-general of the United Nations said:
"It provides a fresh opportunity for all nations and individuals of good will to join in
a@ campaign to stamp out the
evils of racism and racial discrimination which continue to
blot the conscience of mankind,"
Vernon Skovgaard, chairman
of the spiritual Assembly of the
Baha'is of the Grass Valley

U.S, Baha'i community is taking
an active part in the observance
of the International Year. This

this oneness,"

.
This is the insignia of the Telephone Pioneers of America, 335,000 men.and women
from the telephone industry who believe
that the most meaningful contributions an
individual can make to his community are
his time and energy.
This month, the Pioneers celebrate 60
years of “human service.” In that time,
they’ve worked as hospital volunteers, colff
lected and repaired toys and clothes for
needy children and worked extensively with
the blind. These are only a few of their
contributions.
We’re proud to have such concerned, involved men and women represent our industry.
