The legislation authorizing the Bond Act provides: tliat ”
the funds be used to plan and construct: recreational facilities
and for fish and wildlife enhancement at waters of the State
Water Project, Of the $60 million, $54 million would go to the
Department of Parks and Recreation for recreational facilities
and $6 million to the Wildlife Conservation Board and Departce of Fish and Game for fish and wildlife enhancement proects,
The six northern California projects that would benefit by
passage of the bond act are the*Upper Feather River Basin
in Plumas county; Lake Oroville in Butte county; Bethany Reseree
voir and Lake Del Valle in Alameda county; Ingram Creek Aquatic Recreation Area in Stanislaus county; and San Luis Reservoir in Merced county.Director William Penn Mott of Department of Parks and
Recreation said the State plans to spend $12,645,000 on these
six projects to provide over 5 million days of water-oriented
recreation annually for-northern Californians.
Recreational opportunities would include camping, picnicking, fishing, water skiing, boating, swimming, horseback
riding, hiking, and nature study.
Stressing the importance of the bond issue to recreation in

Oroville, $3,015,000 to provide 855,000 days of recreation annually; ‘Lake Del Valle, $3,200,000 to provide 1,633,000 days of
recreation annually; Bethany Reservoir, $800,000 to provide
273,000 days of récreation annually; San Luis Reservoir, $3,370,000 to provide 2,000,000 days of recreation annually.
"On a statewide basis," Mott concluded, ‘Proposition 20 will
finance facilities that will offer over 16 million days of wateroriented recreation annually.” ,
SACRAMENTO — Several State Park campgrounds are
filled up-by reservations for the November 26, 27, 28 weekend,
the Department of Parks and Recreation reported today, but "
there stilf area lot of parks to camp in that weekend.
* Seacliff State Beach in Santa Cruz County is filled-every
weekend between now and the Thanksgiving weekend, except
for a a few vacancies the weekend of Oct. 16-17. For the Thanksgiving weekend only, Anza-Borego Desert State Park in San
Diego and Imperial counties is completely booked, but this is
a heavily used winter time park. There are openings the rest
of the time, however.
All the campsites. with trailer hookups are reserved at
. Morro Bay State Park and Pismo State Beach in San Luis Obispo
; county and San Clemente State Beach in Orange county, but there
still is space in the regular campgrounds.
Reservations would be a good idea at San Clemente, the
Department observed, but there usually is room at Morro Bay
and Pismo. ,
The Department advised that families looking for’a State
Park campsite over Thanksgiving, or during the fall and winter,
have a wide variety of choices, but cautioned that there is no
guarantee about the weather. f :
The Mendocino Coast usually is beautiful in November, provided it is not raining, and such parks as MacKerricher, Russian Gulch and Van Damme are all good bets, For desert campers, Heart Bar in San Bernardino county and Joshua Trees
in Los Angeles county usually have plenty of room, For beach
-campers, a campsite usually is available at New Brighton
State Beach, Santa Cruz county, Leo Carillo State Beach in
Los Angeles county, San Elijo State Beach, San Diego county;
or Atascadero State Beach, San Luis Obispo county.
In the Central Valley, attractive camping spots are at
Caswell Memorial State Park, San Joaquin county; Turlock Lake
State Recreation Area, Stanislaus county; in the newly completed
Loafer Creek Campground at Lake Oroville State Recreation
Area in Butte county; or at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area
in Butte county, or at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area in
Placer, El Dérado, and Sacramento counties.
