' And History Here Three years agoSunset Magazine did a feature spread on Nevada City and the brilliant display of autumn color to'be seen in the city. Sunset recommended the fall color and the gold country sights to the visitor. The following year the Nevada City Chamber } of Commerce:picked up-the idea of drawing visi. tors tothe city in the autumn, this was the story of the Fall Color Spectaculor. Last year The Nugget, taking advantage of the color in the leaves, the interest of the visitors and the city merchants, published the first Fall Festival Edition in Color. ‘ This year the Charter is combining its Fall Color Spectaculor witha photography contest The contest, for black and white pictures, will be . conducted throughout the month of October. . Pictures are limited to those taken within a one . mile radius of the city. The Nugget this year is combining the celebration of autumncolor by providing visitors with a variety of tours of Nevada City and the sur rounding. area. Featured inthis section are five walking tours of the city and three driving tours of the city and {. , scenic areas of the county. {Inside the reader will find simple maps marked with sights of interest, a brief history of some of the points of interest and pictures of some of the city's most famous historical sites and views. Unlike most of its Mother Lode counterparts, inthe pine clad Sierra foothills, Nevada City is ablaze with the color of fall foliage because many of the large colorful trees here today were brought t here by the emigrant families.
