CAMPTONVILLE, Oct. 14. Mr. and Mrs. Harold E. Price of San Jose were here Saturday on a brief visit to his old home. They went on to Anderson, Shasta County. Mr. and Mrs. Earle W. Davis Jr., and sons James and Paul of Castro Valley spent the weekend at their summer home here. Gordon W. Wheeler — of ‘Sacramento was in town over the weekend visiting relatives. Postmaster Leland Pauly and Charles Townsend of Nevada City went on a hunting trip to the Susanville area for a couple of days last week. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Hanson went to their former home in Roseville, Monday, for a couple of days visit. Ivan R. Wood and son Larry of San Francisco were in town Sunday visiting friends, on their way home following a visit to Sierra City. Roger E. Sketo of Citrus Heights was cited Sunday, by Game Warden Larry L. Parkison, for having a doe deer in his possession; he will appear in the Camptonville Justice Court. Graveside services were held 1 Year $3.00 Saturday in the North San Juan Cemetery for the late John Larue Bata; who died October 8, 1974 at the Sacramento Medical Center. Judge Acton M. Cleveland of Camptonville officiated. Deceased was born. in Arkansas on February 21, 1910; came to California while a young man and followed carpentry and painting trades most of his life. He was the father of James (Bata) Fowler of North San Juan; and for the past fifteen years he spent every summer in this mountainous area prospecting on the various streams throughout this region. He became well known in these parts and had a host of friends. He was survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Thompson of Bakersfield and Mrs. Gay Schackleford, of Sacramento; a son, James (Bata) Fowler, of North San Juan; three sisters, Mrs. Lee Crenshaw of Oklahoma and Mrs. Kate Curtis of Santa Rosa, Mrs. Virginia Leslie . of Bakersfield; four brothers Paul Foster of Oklahoma; Joe Foster, Dabby Foster, Wesley Foster, of Bakersfield; and his mother, Mrs. Delmar Sue Casey, of Bakersfield; and seven granchildren. The funeral arrangements were under the direction of the North Sacramento Funeral Funeral services for the late Gordon Tabor Price who died on September 28, 1974, in a Redding hospital following a brief illness, were held October 1, in Anderson, Shasta County. He was anative of Camptonville; the son of a pioneer couple, Samuel A. and Louisa A. Price. He. was 70 years of age. He resided in Camptonville during the younger years of his life, going north many years ago
and settling at Anderson. There he operated a motel and apartment house. He was well known in. that area and had many friends. He is survived by his wife, Arulia, of Anderson .and a brother, Harold E. Price, of San Jose. Cremation followed’ the services in Anderson and the ashes were interred in the family plot in the Camptonville Cemetery. Wed., Oct. 23,1974 The Nevada Camptonville Néws . Quilt show . City during weekend Time for the quilt show ‘has finally arrived and it will be held ‘from -11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the Nevada City Armory. All types of quilts will be on exhibit or for sale — new, old, traditional, or modern original designs, along with anew supplies, books and patchwork gift items for the early Christmas shopper. Several antique bedroom settings will .show the way quilts were used in former days; one portion will be devoted to crib and children’s quilts with several antique toys also on display. There .will be quilting and demonstrations and quilters will be on‘ hand to answer questions. This show has. the endorsement of the Nevada County Bicentennial Commission because of its significance in reminding us of our rich American heritage and the ingenuity and artistry of our pioneer women.
