They will be enjoying an entirely new Elks Club after a disastrous fire of nearly two years ago. Over $50,000 has been spent in improvements. For 63 years the Elks have been a proud contribution to the welfare and gaiety of Nevada City with their dedication to Americanism, anonymous needy assistance and goodclean fun, Aswith many a NC ladies'or men's lodge they mostly have provided their own entertainment, There is a general hilarity if inladies' lodges like the Native Daughters they dress as men in their shows and in men's lodges as in the Elks, they in their shows dress as women, This picture was taken way hack in early 1920's when these stalwart NC citizens wound the May Pole at the Armory Hall for a public benefit then came back to the Elks Home on Pine St. to meet their wives and girl friends andto dance the night away, L-R, Thomas Richards, Charles Leiter, Harry Englebright, John Fortier, Frank Nilon, Richard Nickless, Richard Goyne, Elza Kilroy, Percival Carr, Edward Uren and James Penrose. Ishall give them an unexpected andRECENT LY deserved one instead: They aren't driving nearly as maniacally as they were last year, eee Many teenagers attended the MYS skating party last Friday night. Steve Covert and the Palmers chaperoned the group to the rink in Marysville. Afterward they stayed for a Sock Hop, and Margie Phillips, our ~ext door neighbor, won a purple poodle for her ability in a Limbo Contést, She shimmied her way under a pole roughly 22 inches from the floor, ..mind you with her feet on the ground and not using her hands.. and her thigh muscles are understandably very sore, eee68 Doanie and Frank Addleman, who had been caring for grandaughter Sherry, lost her Sunday when Carol and Sam Varner, the child's parents came to pick her up. eee ee8 Kit Orr, Toni and Bill Browning w ent skating with the kids Friday night. eee The North San Juan and Camptonville Methodist Churches held their fourth quarterly conference Sunday afternoon following a potluck dinner.

Iwill quote you one item: “The remains Of Mr$s cers see Who died at Graniteville some weeks ' ago will be buried there today, the body not being in condition to bring here, as was anticipated. Camptonville News By Irene Stoops Camptonville "dug out" Oct. 14 after a four day rain and wind storm. Total precipitation fer the. storm was 20.83 inches, We were without electricity most of that time. The power came on several times--then off it w ould go--perhaps another tree blown across the lines. P,G.&E. crews worked frantically and power was restored Saturday afternoon. The town water supply was so thick with mud that it reminded one of a thick mulligan stew--only not as appetizing. There wasno laundry, mopping or even bathing in Camptonville fora few days. We caught rain water for cooking and "spit baths". Wenoticea good many trees have beentom limb from limb by the wind and many residents report leaky roofs. Sunday the good old sun and the “€alm after the storm" were most welcome. eee2e8 Camptonville Womens Club's annual Jitney Dinner was given at the school auditorium Oct, 5. See ee We are having lovely In. dian Summer weather after our big rain and wind storm. Thenorth wind blew, drying the mud and the loggers are again back to work, going like mad to get in as many licks as possible before more storms, eeeee It is said that Marysville Union High School trustees are closing the Camptonville branch of the high school, and that arrangements are being made to send the high schoolstudents, by bus, from Camptonville to Grass Valley to attend high school there. Bernard Reimann, high school teacher here is being transferred to Marysville High School.
