County Nugget, Wednesday, October 28, 1970 os e . ‘Luck rides with plane LUCK WAS WITH this plane when it landed on this rocky field near Spenceville on the Double Diamond Ranch Sunday at 11:20 p.m. Two 33-year old Concord men, Burdall White and Ronald Schoenberg are in Sierra Nevada Hospital as a result of the crash, The plane narrowly missed hitting a large boulder head-on, (behind right wing tip). Before landing the plane sent a distress message which was heard by the Marysville airport. Randy Bullock of Nevada County Airpark was notified and with the aid of a signal fire found the downed craft within an hour. "Temporary facilities have’ been installed to permit limited public use until permanent facilities can be constructed." ~~ He added. that the Department has earmarked $3,200,000 in bond funds for Del Valle to construct family and group campsites, picnic sites, swimming beaches, bath house, riding and hiking trails, boat-in camps, play areas, parking areas, access and -internal roads, and utilities, A marina complex to be developed by a concessionaire selected on an open bid basis is expected to offer boat rentals, motor launch trips, supplies, gas, boat docking and mooring, and groceries. "Lake Del Valle is a 5-mile long reservoir in the Livermore Valley easily accessible to the 4 million residents of the San Francisco Bay Area, the Santa Clara Valley, and the Central Valley." : He said the failities proposed with bond funds would provide 1,633,000 days of water-oriented recreation annually, These are scheduled to be ready for the public by 1975, The Lake, with a 16 mile shoreline and containing 1,060 surface acres of water, is a feature of the South Bay.
