BENNETS IS NEVADA CITY
MAYOR
R, J. Bennetts, long-time
trustee, was ata special meeting
of the City board last week,
named as mayor of Nevada City
for.the coming term.
The board canvassed the election returns and certified
Messrs, Bennetts and Fred C;
Worth as trustees, Mrs. Emma
Foley as treasurer.
Mayor Bennetts named as his
committees the following:
streets, Worth; sewers and finance, Seaman; lights, C. R.
Murchie; water, Armstrong.
The regular meeting of the
board for May will be held next
week owing to the fact that the
first Thursday this month falls
on the 1st, and according to the
ordinance, the meeting is held
on the first Thursday after the
first day.

FATAL ACCIDENT
AT MURCHIE
In a shaft cave on the 1100

Walter McCollough suffered
a short time, McCullough
rushed to the Nevada City
Sanitarium by the Holmes ambulance and Dr. R. F. Werner was
called,
Babcock's body was recovered
later. His chest was crushed.
He leaves his mother, Mrs, Phil
Buell of Sacramento and his father, a resident of Red Bluff, He
-had only worked here three
weeks,

an attack of mumps is reported
as improving at his Oakland

Mrs. E. Gregory who has resided on Sacramento street in
this city for many years, left
. for Fresno to make her future
home. .

Fitzsimmons and family.
Mr, and Mrs. A, Seaman have
returned from Oakland where
Mr, Seaman attended the Odd
Fellows Grand Lodge, and Mrs,
Seaman attended a Rebekah.
Mrs, Clara Scarfe left
for Hollywood where she will
visit with her son, George Osterman, for several weeks.
While South, she will visit several other cities.
Mr, and Mrs, Brandy Legg,
and the latter's, Miss Bernice
Rossen, arrived from Oakland,
They will leave today for
Fresno, accompanied by Mrs.
H. F, Legg, where they will
visit with Mrs. Harrison Smitheram, Mrs. H. F, Legr's niece.

Friends of O, E, Schiffner,
well known mining man of this
city will be glad to learn that
he -is steadily ‘improving at the
Woodland Clinci. He was operated upon Saturday by Dr, Fairchile for a trouble of long standing, but a complete recovery is
expected shortly. Mrs, Schiffner
returned from Woodland late
Monday evening.
William Campbell of Hammonton and Joseph Campbell of
Sacramento, both former residents, and father and borther,
respectively, of Mrs, Ray
Worthley, who was recently operated upon at the Nevada City
Sanitarium, are here to visit
her. Mrs, Worthley is making a
satisfactory improvement from
the operation.
MR. AND MRS, William J. Childers (the former Linda Louise Wood) are living in Lawndale.
They were married Sept. 19 in St. Patricks Catholic Church in
honeymoon. trip to Rio-De Janerio, Brazil.
