SCHOOL BONDS PASS
Subdivision
At Spaulding
Is Rejected
A bi-county subdivision off
Highway 20 near Lake Spaulding
was rejected by the Nevada
County Planning Commission
Monday night when the subdivider
refused to supply required information and refused to withdraw
his application and submit a
revised tentative map.
The tentative map of Spaulding
Estates had been continued from
the Oct. 11 meeting until the
Placer County Planning Commission could act. Nevada Planning
Director Bill Roberts told thé
local commission Monday that
Placer County had approved the
map with a lengthy list of conditions,
Commission Chairman Bob
McWhinney said he would still
like to see a 100 foot setback
from highway 20,
Commissioner Bert Livingstonsaid he still leans toward the 200
foot setback requirement along
scenic highways. Developer
Richard Walters said this would
destroy all the lots all along the
highway.

The announcement was made by
Fielding Tapp, first vice president.
Larue takes office as the 161

engaged in a fund drive to purchase the historical landmark,
which was the birthplace of the

be located adjacent to the townsite, butno decision has yet been
made on whether a proposed
museum will be located in the
administrative-center or in the
town itself, Cobb said much of
this will hinge on what is learned
about the area by the division's
interpretive research section.
Cobb said it was the feeling
now that first overnight facilities
would be developed near the town
and first major work would be
involved in stabilization of the
existing structures in the town,
Asked about a timetable for the
project, Cobb said development
is scheduled over a 20 year period
at an estimated cost of $3 million.
Commissioner Bert Livingston
asked when actual construction
would start, Cobb said plans call
for development on a five year
basis, but property acquisition

The same measure was narrowly
defeated in April. Tuesday the
bond issue was approved bya vote
of 2,925 to 1,290.
A total of 4,215 votes were
cast. There are 10,838 eligible
voters in the Nevada Union High

cent. This was a better showing
than that of the April election.
The measure needed a two
thirds majority to pass and the
favorable vote gave the issue a
69.39 percent margin of approval.

the margin was just one vote,
