A Quick Move Will Get An Extra Year On License If your driver's license expires in the next six months, a trip now to the Department of Motor Vehicles may add one year to the term of your next license. According to Tom Bright, director of Motor Vehicles, drivers' licenses renewed before January 1 will be issued for fiveyear terms, But because ofa new law, licenses renewed after the first of the year will be issued for four-year terms, Five-year licenses have been issued since Sept. 17, 1957. Prior to 1957, the standard term was four years. “The bonus to drivers with expiring licenses is possible because of a provision allowing the department to renew drivers’ licenses up to six months early, " Bright said. This means a person whose license expires in March, can come in now and be issued a five-year license expiring in March 1971. However, if he applies in March for a renewal license, he will be issued a four-* year license which will expire in 1970. Bright said his department is encouraging eligible drivers to renew their licenses early to relieve a future double workload of license expirations. He estimates that about one million drivers are eligible to take advantage of the early renewal provision, and thus receive fiveyear licenses, CLASSIFIED ADS SERVICES WINDSHIELDS REPLACED And all other automobile glass.
