“Now boys,” interrupted the
teacher, “you know. the rules.
You both get a thrashing for
fighting on the school ground.”
So began a family feud that
finally ended on a sunny day
south of Willits with eight family
members either killed or
wounded.
One of the schoolground antagonists was Frost, the other
was a Coates and both sets of
parents came to school to
complain of the teacher’s

At the end of the discussion the
Coates were persuaded the
teacher was right but Mr. Frost
was even more incensed. He
demanded the teacher’s
resignation and failing that, he
demanded the Board of Trustees

A bitter campaign followed
with Frost leading a drive to
elect a whole new board and the
Coates family as the loudest and
strongest supporters of the
incumbents. The childish

extended to the adults. insults
were traded and finally threats.

Please vote Tuesday November 4. Hopefully
you will vote right but who really knows what
that is. Maybe we must develop a bit of ego
about our own ability to: know what is right.
Anyway let’s have some things that, except for
the influence of selfish undercover lobbies, are
the will of the people. In spite of all efforts to
confuse, hopefully, Americans still have the
ability to analyze and decide what is right, if
they try. s

Sourdough bread and pancakes being so good.
One of Ruby’s readers asked me about our
Rough and Ready Sourdough Starter. Starter is
expensive to buy and it’s difficult to find any to
buy but it’s easy to make. Just mix together one
envelope active dry yeast, 2 cups warm (not
hot) water, and two cups all purpose flour in a
good sized glass or bowl. Cover it
