Page 6..Wednesday, October 3, 1962..Nevada County NUGGET —=—_—————_"" Truckee Tahoe Airport Now Officially Open. TRUCKEE -California's newest airstrip, the Truckee Tahoe Airport, located two miles south of Truckee on the Truckee -Kings Beach Highway, was officially opened to traffic at 11 a.m. Sunday with it's slogan “Safety First”. Sunday, Forest Fiorini of Turlock, chairman of the California Aeronautics Commission presented the permit from the state, authorizing the official use of the airport, to John Houlgate, chairman of the district board of directors, The dedication of the airport will take place early next spring. The airstrip is being opened totraffic at this time to supply an increasing demand for air service to the resorts at the Northend of Lake Tahoe, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and the Truckee-Donner recreational areas, The board of directors at a meeting this past week adopted a resolution stating “the safety of pilots and passengers using this airport was of paramount importance and that except in case of an emergency, nounauthorized parachute jumping would be permitted within it's air traffic pattern”. The Truckee Tahoe Airport, consisting nowof a 6000 foot paved runway, 100 feet wide, with a short taxiway onto a 200 x 200 foot paved parking area, isin its second phase of a six phase program. A phase a year is being built and when completed, will provide a full length taxiway, terminal building, hangers, lighting for night operation, larger parking area and all the facilities of an up to date trunk type airport, The airport is being built by the Truckee Tahoe Airport District, formed in 1958, which includes all of Placer and Nevada Counties east of the Sierra. The elected directors of the District are: John Houlgate, Truckee, Chairman; Fred Schultz, Kings Beach; T.L. James, Tahoe Vista; Zeph Rose and Lauren Russell, Truckee. When it comes to Swine Brucellosis Hearing Set For October 4 SACRAMENTO----A public hearing on the proposal of the California Depart ment of Agriculture to establish Amador, El Dorado, Nevada, and Placer Counties as swine brucellosis control areas will beheld by the Department in Auburn Oct. 4, The hearing will convene at 10 a.m. in the new wing ofthe Auburn Recreation Hall, Auburn Recreation District Park, Racetrack Avenue and Recreation Drive. Inthe absence of Mayor Jack Hodge the council voted to continue action on the district untilits next regular meeting Oct. 9. Cost estimates for paving a section of Jill St. were presented by public works director Ken Manuell, Manuell also reported the bathhouse at the municipal pool was nearing completion. No action wastaken on the paving job. The council was asked by Police Chief Frank Knuckey for a crosswalk at S. Auburn and Empire Streets due to the large number of school children using that intersection . Thecouncil orderedthe work done. Councilman Len Prisk made a motion that the unfinished work on the recent MillSt. paving job be completed by the city and action taken later with the contractor.
