Two Displays Of Interest _ At Wells Farg Two displays of special interest to citizens of Nevada County will be on view in Wells Fargo Bank's Grass Valley Office which opens Saturday in the Brockington Manor Shopping Center. (TheBrockington site is a good one for an organization with Wells Fargo's rich history. The Golden Center geographical center of Grass Valley in Gold Rush. daysis just a few feet from the shopping center. ) Shown in the lobby of the new bank, the displays of items from the Wells Fargo Bank History Room in San Francisco deal with Grass Valley and Nevada City. Inthe first are pictures of Lola Montez, whose house still stands on Mill Street in Grass Valley, and her protege, Lotta Crabtree. Alsoonview is a book by Alonzo “Old Block" Delano, who got,his name from the fact that he whittled while he thought. His ideas multiplied, as he said, “like the chips of an Old Block" and he hit on this forhis pen name. Delano was Wells Fargo o’ Opening agent in Grass Valley in 1855, the year he saved the town twice. At one time he had his own bank, and receipts fromit are included. Also shown are several guns and pictures ofthe Empire Mine, one of the most famous gold mines in the world. The second display deals with Nevada City. Included are a lithograph of the town in 1856, pocket scales, a pan with real gold, express receipts and letters from the Wells Fargo agency there, and a model stage coach. A desk from Wells Fargo's former agency in Nevada City will be in use in the bank. Among framed pictures on the wall will be "Downthe Road to Hangtown" showing a Concord coach in action and “Nevada City in 1856" a lithograph bordered with pictures of individual buildings in the city at that time. County Gets $9205 Slice Of Trailer Fees From State Levy Nevada County's share of trailer coach fees for the first six months of 1963 was $9,205, State Controller Alan Cranston announced today. : Cranston said a total of $4, 153, 650 in fees was distributed to the counties. The fee on trailer homes is levied in lieu of property taxes. Each county's share is based on the fees collected from trailers located in the county at the time of registration. The Controller sends the money to the county auditor, who then divides it equally among the county, city and school district in which the trailers registered. KEN ADAMS YOUR MONY MAN
