GERMAN DANCERS from Sacramento put on an exhibition at Grass Valley's first
annual Octoberfest celebration Sunday at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

Valley Concert Series presents
Miss Lynn Schugren, pianist, inconcert at the Nevada Theatre
Sunday, October 7th at 8 p.m.
Miss Schugren’s program will
open with Sonata No. 3 in F
minor, opus 5 by Brahms. After
intermission She will play the
Scherzo in B flat minor, opus 31
by Chopin, followed by Two
Poems, opus 32 by Skryabine,
and concluding the evening with
La Campanella (Paganini’s
Etude de Concert) transcribed
by Liszt.
Miss Schugren is well known
in Nevada county. She began her
studies at age five with Nadyz
Lorenz of Berkeley. In her
junior year of high school, she
attended the Music Academy of
the West in Santa Barbara,
where she studied with Reginald
Stewart.
Upon receiving a Ford
Foundation talent award, Miss
Schugren entered Mills College
where she studied chamber
music with Nathan Rubin and
Bernard Abromowitsch. She
was graduated from the
University of California at
Berkeley and has since taught

The regular monthly general
ineeting of the Nevada County
Historical Society. will be held at
the Holbrooke Hotel in Grass
Valley Thursday, at 8 p.ni. ~
Fay Dunbar, President of the
' society emphasizes that the
regular meeting will not be held
in the Veterans Hall in Nevada
City.
Speaker of the evening will be
Arletta Douglas, who will
highlight the Holbrooke’s past,
present developments and
future plans. Members and
guests will be treated to tours of
the refurbished historical
structure. Items and pictures of
historical interest will be on
display.
Gwen Anderson will be in
Charge of refreshments.
Hjalmer Berg is program
chairman for the event.
Minor car mishap in Grass Valley
Grass Valley Police
investigated a two car mishap
Friday at 11:18 a.m. that caused
no injuries and minor damage to
both vehicles.
Clint Rees of Grass Valley was
backing up his vehicle at the
entrance to the Texaco Station
on Auburn and Neal Streets and
collided with a car driven by
Romona North of Nevada City.
The police report also
revealed the Grass Valley Fire
Department had a long night
with an oven fire at 411 Kate
Hayes Street at 7:50 p.m.
