When he returned to California in 1943, Dr, Padgett began a general practice in Grass Valley in association with the late Dr. Carl P. Jones. Following the death of Dr. Jones in 1944, he became Chief of Staff at the W. C. Jones Memorial Hospital and continued in that capacity until his final illness, He was also a member of the active staff at Nevada General Hospital and an honorary member of the staff at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital when he was stricken. In addition to his general practice he pursued his special interest in diseases of the chest and succeeded Dr. Robert A, Peers, with whom he had earlier been associated, as medical director of the Colfax Hospital for the Tuberculous, He maintained his connection with this hospital until it closed several ‘years ago. An authority on silicosis and_ silico-tuberculosis, Dr. Padgett's work in this field was recognized in 1964 when he received the Excellate Award of the. American Academy of Tuberculosis Physicians, Dr. Padgett was long active in the Placer-Nevada County Medical Society, serving as secretary-treasurer from 1946 _until 1950 and after that as vicepresident and president. In addition, he belonged to the California and American Medical Associations, The American College of Chest Physicians, The American Thoracic Society, The American Academy of Tubercujosis Physicians, and other professional associations.
