ee ee SS a Veuwr ao ae . The Nugget.. Page 7 October 31, 1963. Page 7. Senate Leader Hugh horns State Senate leader Hugh M. Burns of Fresno said today that Assemblyman PaulJ. Lunardi will be an outstanding State Senator. Lunardi is a candidate in the special senatorial election being held November 5 in Placer, Nevada and Sierra Counties to choose a successor to former Senator Ronald G. Cameron, who resigned to accept an appointment as Placer County Superior Judge. SenatorBurns, who is President Pro tempore of the Senate, described Lunardi as “highly respected" by the membership of the Senate. "I know of no member of the. Assembly who is more qualified than Paul Lunardi to serve effectively and with distinction in the Senate, " Burns declared. “He has the. experience, the reputation for fairness and integrity, and the ability to give the people of Placer, Nevada and Sierra Counties the representation they deserve. " Senator Burns said he knows that Lunardican serve the mountain counties even more effectively in the Senate than was possible in the Assembly. "Icome from a rural grea myself," Senator Burns said, “and I am very much aware of our problems. I have watched Paul Lunardi 's career in the Legislature closely, andI can say without qualification that the Senate {© PROTECTION Medal For Serra President John F. Kennedy has signed into law legislation creating a commemorative medal in honor of Father Junipero Serra, the Franciscan missionary who brought Western civilization to California two centuries ago. The bill, co-sponsored by Congressmen H.T. Johnson calls for striking of the medal by the Treasury Department. The Padre JuniperoSerra 250th Anniversary As~sociation -a private group of citizens -will finance the striking of the medal. There will be no government expense. Praises Paul J. Lunardi needs more independent thinkers like him. “He knows his district and what needs to be done to solve its problems and encourage its prosperity. "His opportunities in the Senate for greater service to his district simply can't be disputed. In the Assembly, which is dominated by the metropolitan areas, Lunardi had one vote as against 33 from Los Angeles County. In . ’ the Senate he will have one vote, but Los Angeles County will have only one vote, also. “Anyone whocan do as well as Paul Lunardi did in the Assembly is bound to do even much better in the Senate. “Through experience, hard work and dedicated service to the people of the mountain counties, Paul Lunardi has earned this promotion. LUNARDI Candidate For Senator of the 7th District Meets Those Specifications His accomplishments in securing passage of important Bills benefiting all of the people in his present Assembly District, have been exceptional. All Bills proposed by Paul Lunardi for aid to his Counties and particularly their Water Problems, have been passed. Most important The Auburn Dam Project in Placer County and The Enabling Legislation to help The Nevada Irrigation District in Nevada County. His Opponent offers a:negative philosophy, one of stagnation. His Opponent takes the stand that Paul's work is so valuable to his 11 Counties that he should not be permitted to advance to the Office of Senator representing only Nevada, Placer and Sierra Counties. His statement is that "HE" will take steps to prevent sich reward ‘and deprive Nevada, Placer and Sierra Counties of the use of his services exclusively, which we need. Another erroneous Statement is that the Counties for which Paul Lunardi is now Assemblyman would be deprived of representation. The Facts: In all instances where a vacancy occurs by death or otherwise, The Assemblymen and Senators of adjacent Districts take over the duties so there will be no decrease in Representation.
