(Con't from pg. 1)
A motion was made to grant
Halcomb a temporary certificate, "until his name be cleared
or justice prevail." It passed
by a 3-2 vote, six of the seven
members of the board being present; but the vote was later ruled
invalid by Counsel Todd, because
according to law, it did not constitute a quorum of the entire
board,
George Bryant, principal of
Hennessy School, where Halcomb
has taught in the past, made the
first move for some explanation
from law enforcement agencies,
"T ask at this time that the law
enforcement of. Nevada County
state whether Mr, Halcomb has
done something to prevent him
from being in close contact with
your children and mine. I do
not feel I could return him to
a school over which I administer
as long as he is under a cloud."
Todd later told those in attendance at a special meeting
that there is a problem in obtaining the facts,
"Your law enforcement agencies are in dispute as to facts
surrounding the incident," he
said,
However, Todd said, "As far
as I know, the grand jury is not
considering any indictment
against Mr, Halcomb,"
The board unanimously voted
to notify Sheriff Wayne Brown
and Dist, Atty. Harold A, Berliner by certified mail, asking
them to issue public reports
on Daniel Halcomb's role, or
lack of it in the marijuana raid,
Tuesday morning, the Nevada
County Nugget called both the
sheriff and the district attorney.
Sheriff Brown said that he had
received the request and was
preparing a statement, but
doubted that it would be ready
in time for the Nugget's deadline,
District Attorney Berliner said
that the request was delivered
to him by hand, and that he, too,
was preparing a statement, but
that it would be directed to the
school trustees first, before being made public.
In the meantime, Fellersen
has notified newsman that the
county board is not likely to
hold another special session on
the Halcomb case "unless there
is sufficient reason to cause
them to meet."
