Avery and Mrs, Joan Mader, The 24 guests present included "Rough and Ready's Little Women" (they call themselves the Fats) and school friends of Tina's, “ Miss Neep will be married Oct, 14 to. Raymond Miller of Fair: Oaks, completed his stint in the armed service and is employed at McClellan Air Field, Tina works in Sacramento and the young couple plan to make their home near their work. ; Ke KKK Mrs, Violet Hawson, soloist for the Christian Science Club in Grass Valley, sang her favorite number last Saturday:night for the Wesleyan Methodist Church's Sacred Concert. Violet has been soloist for the Christian Science Church since last June. Each week she sings new and specifically selected music,’ but "Thanks Be To God," by Stanley Dickinson, remains her favorite, Mrs. Hawson has been a resident of Rough and Ready for over two years and sings for many local functions, Before the death of her husband, they made their home in Taylorsville, Plumas County. KAKA EK Mrs. Dorothy Hicks left last Thursday for a two week vacation at Marquette, Mich. Dorothy was born and raised in nearby Superior, She will visit old friends and lots of relatives who live in that area, Wednesday evening before her departure, a group of friends . and neighbors surprised her with a "bon voyage" party. The vacation was a gift from an old friend, She will fly both ways, It will be Dorothy's first time away from her family, Eldest daughter, Debbie, is going on 17 years old, It will also be her first plane ride, So this is really going to be an exciting vacation, * ok Kk KK The Rough and Ready Grange welcomed 75 guests to its Booster Night party last Saturday evening. Out-of-county guestswere Mr, Louis P, Hansen of Lincoln who is Master of the PlacerNugget Pomona Grange and Mr, Leroy Cannon of San Jose who was a house guest of the Jack Bixlers. Mrs. Ferne Knight, Master of Golden Empire Grange, was the only other grange master attending and she had a party of six Golden Empire Grange members witn ner, Mrs, Gladys Harper of Ostrom:Grange was also present for the festivities, Garrett M, Stack, Editor of the Nevada County Nugget, and his wife and two youngest children and his sister Mrs, R. S, Heriot were also guests at this annual Grange event, ‘Guests were welcomed by Master Clara Deardorf and State Deputy for Nevada County Charles Deardorf. Decorations followed the theme of the Autumn Harvest Season and were done by Mrs. Rosa Christensen. She added a spirit of fun with her delightful scarecrows interestingly spotted among the harvested fruits and melons, The food was excellent as it always is at Grange events, Thanks to the skill of Grange HEC Chairman Mrs. Marguerite Abbott, dinner went smoothly in spite of the need to set up extra tables for the unexpectedly large turnout and the lack of variety for second helpings, : Fun was arranged by lecturer Fay Dunbar, Game prizes for the ladies were won by Mrs. Marguerite Spaite and Mrs. Hazel Schull, -The gentlemen's awards were collected by Mr, Foy BradRaymond attended school in Grass Valley. Piano accompaniments were provided by Grange musician Edith Williams, Mrs, Lisetta Scheave spent several days in Sacramento last week visiting her daughter Mrs, Jacqueline Kelly. On Tuesday evening, she attended.a very lovely and happy "bon voyage” party for her granddaughter Karen Kelly. Karen left Wednesday for an extended vacation in Germany. * OK KK OK OK On Sept, 27, a group of Rough and Ready ladies met at the home of Mrs, Marguerite Spaite to make doll clothes. The project is Pioneer Dolls for Rough and Ready's Secession Day Celebration July 4, 1968, Mrs. Spaite, whois chairman of the committee, hopes to have some of them ready for our local merchants before Christmas, She plans at least fwo types of dolls, One will wear the truly authentic clothes of the period and should become a collector's item, The other will be dressed in the more familiar type of pioneer clothing. More categories may be added later. Marguerite has readied a work room with lots of tables and good light for Thursday, Oct, 5 at 2:00 p.m. for our next session. Bring scissors and sewing machine or needle and thread and any materials you may have. There will be paper patterns available.’ * kK KK OK The William Thomas' spent the weekend in San Francisco. They made it a long weekend in order to attend a retirement dinner for Mr, Lacey Thomas, Bill's father, on Friday evening.
Thomas, Lacey that is, had 40 years of service with the telephone company. An other wise pleasant weekend of visiting, shopping, and sight-seeing was marred by the theft of Mrs, Thomas’ favorite purse, her coat and their camera, Thieves, somehow, got into their parked car and took everything handy.
