Kennedy and Allen Lee Cranford exchanged wedding vows at4 7 p.m. ceremony September 16, in the United Church of Christ in Squaw Valley. The Rev, Allen Bloom officiated at the double ring service, The bride, the daughter of Mr, and Mrs, Lawrence Kennedy of Grass Valley, chose a gown of satin brocade for her wedding, The gown featured a round neck, long tapered sleeves and train secured at the waist back, Floral appliques trimmed the shoulder length veil which was held by a crown of seed pearls, The bridal bouquet was a cascade of ice green gladiolas, The bride was given in marriage by her father, Jeanette M. Wiesen, sister of the bride, was the matron of honor, She wore a gold brocade gown with matching veii and carried orange carnations, _ Robert Wood served as best man, Duane Wiesen, brotherin-law of the bride, and Lee James, friend of the groom, were the ushers, Mr, and Mrs, Walter Cranford of Chicago Park are the parents of the groom, A reception was held at the Squaw Valley Inn where fifty-five guests were served a champagne buffet dinner, featuring a. three tiered wedding cake, Mrs, Kennedy chose a royal-blue brocade ensemble for her daughter's wedding. A yellow orchid corsage completed her attire. The groom's mother, Mrs, Cranford, chose a gold and white brocade jacket dress, She also wore ayellow orchid corsage. The bride graduated from Nevada Union High School and Sierra College. She is now employed at the Nevada County Title Company in Grass Valley. The groom also graduated from the Nevada Union High School and San Jose State College, He is now affiliated with the Pioneer Propane Company of Colfax, Following a wedding trip north to Canada, the young couple will be at home in Chicago Park. Slides Shown — At DAR Meet The Captain John Oldham Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met on Monday, Sept. 25, at 1:00 p.m, at the home of Mrs, Roy C. Barnesthe regent with Mrs. John W. Elliott presiding. A fascinating program of slides showing historic Philadelphia homes and Valley Forge was conducted by Mrs. Lowell L. Elster. This-same morning, the Regent and Mrs. Elster appeared on Channel 8 over cable TV, presenting the same program, This ~ was also shown to the Native Daughters of the Golden West as well as to many of the County’s schools, It was announced that a thesis "The History of American Music from 1620-1783" and the song "Chester", sung by the soldiers of the Revolutionary War around the campfire, were presented to the Nevada Union High School and the Nevada City Library by the Chapter, Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess assisted by Mrs, George R. Stewart and Mrs, Agnes Specht, Mrs, Barnes’ guest, Pioneer Arts ‘Group Sets Show At National Hotel Pioneer Arts of Nevada County is celebrating its third year
by having a show of arts and crafts at the famous old National Hotel in Nevada City Oct, 14 from 10,00 a.m, until 6 p.m, Paintings and crafts of more than thirty members will be displayed throughout the hotel. Several artists of this grour are recognized and have received ribbons at the County Fair and art shows throughout the area, Some members have shown their work in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, as well as Japan, Hong Kong and many other cities, One member has had paintings on-a world tour. During the first three years in Nevada City and Grass Valley, the club has displayed art in five local banks and various business organizations, From this Pioneer Arts is becoming known and requests are coming in for shows in many areas. The club members have also acted as judges of other art shows, Their first big out-door show was held in Grass Valley on July 4th of this year, The crowds were enormous and the praise was reported very encouraging. Pioneer Arts judged it a success in presenting the work on our local people to the public. Once a month the club meets for a business meeting. This time is also used for demonstrations and lectures, In addition the members sketch and paint four times each month at outdoor locations, These are listed in the local papers under Faith Circle Sponsors Rummage Arummage sale, sponsored by the Faith Circle of the Womens Society of Christian Service, willbe held from 9a.m.to4p.m., Oct. 10 and 1l, at Wesley Hall, Grass Valley. Many good items of wearing apparel, householditems, etc., will be available at reasonable prices. "Club News" and anyone interested is welcome to attend, At the present time the group seeks to secure an historical building in Grass Valley to be used as a gallery. Work on this project is reported progressing nicely, , Realtors Attend Convention Several Realtors from Nevada County were among those in attendance at the Annual Convention of the California Real Estate Association which was held at the Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles, Sept. 23-28. Florence E. Lucas, President of the Nevada County Board of Realtors; Richard Esterly, Jr., past president of the county board anda member of the CREA nominating committee and the ethics and professional standards committee were among those who attended the session. Also, William W. Esterly, past president of the county board and vice chairman north of the CREAresolutions committee and honorary director of CREA for life; Wayne L. Williamson, past NCBR president and vice chairman north of CREA credentials committee. Floyd Wright, Realtor, past president of the Corona Board of Realtors, past president of the Norwalk Board of Realtors, and vice chairman north of the CREA Constitution and By-Laws Committee, attended the session and Gertrude Esterly, Past President of NCBR went as a delegateto the convention. Grass Valley PTA Begins Drive The Grass Valley Elementary PTA has designated Oct.2, thru Oct. 6 as the dates for their official membership drive. The letters PTA, as most everyone knows, stand for parentteacher association, but they stand for much more, They stand for common aims shared by millions of Americans -homemakers, businessmen, doctors, lawyers, mechanics, clerks, The magnet that draws all these men and women together in the PTA is their caring and concern for children and youth, in home, school, church, and community.
