Tall Pines Nursery School Is
Still Expanding Its Facilities
New Mothers to the Tall Pines
Nursery School inspected its facilities at the fairgrounds during
& special meeting Sept. 14,
For the first time in five years
of. the school
children canbe entirely sepezatedintotwo age groups, The
woman ‘s building at the fairgrounds, which became the
nursery school'shome last year,
hasbeen partitioned sothat each
age group has its own complete
facilities for activities ranging
from active outdoor play to quiet
listening to stories and music,
There are separate areas for
snacks, creative work, playing
house, block building and rock
ing horse riding.
President Kathy Eacobacci explained how these expanded
areas enable the development
of the children’s skills and abilities in an enviorment which
allowed for the unique individuality of'each child, This is
the philosophy of the nursery
school; it recognizes that the
small child's legrning process is
concealed in what adults callplay, and provides the facilities
and guidance necessary for all
forms of this play.
Mrs,Eacobacci introduced the
officers for this year including
vice-president Joan Gilbert,
treasurer Deanna Hoffman, editor Pat Dobbs, representatives
Ada Labelle and Dorothy Bradford, and the co-directors Vene
Ingram and Joan Dayton,

since its beginning five years

the American Red Cross is issuing
a plea for help.
New members are needed to
assist with that busy organization
activities, The swimming instruction program, under the direction of Zoe Shucker, was attended by over 400 youngsters
this summer,

who is in charge of the project
this year, From the funds remaining after,the printing bill
for the program is paid, major
equipment purchases for the
nursery school can be made,
This fall, chairs for all 80 children and an indoor exercise gym
to be used on rainy days will
be added tothe school, The
Fair programs, which made this
possible were given away toeach
visitor to the Nevada County
Fair, This August, 8000 copies
were distributed,
Allnursery school mothers met
again Monday evening Sept. 19
at Frank Buck Hall Emmanual
Episcopal Church, Grass Valley,
President Eacobacci explained
to the group that being a cooperative nursery school meant
that the tuition fees were low,
but thatthe mothers had to participate in running the school,
Each session the co=directors
are assisted by eight mothers
serving their turns in rotation,
In addition, the mothers volunteer to serve on service coinmittees such as sewing, library,
special refreshments, and
typing. The mothers are also
required to attend the informative meetings held the third Monday evening of each month,
The main business of this Septtember meeting was the reviewing of a adoption of a manual of
simple first aid techniques to be
used at nursery school in case of
minor accident. Mrs. Ingram
explained that although there
had never been a serious accident in the nursery school's
history, the proper proceedure
for handling such an emergency
must also be learned by each
mother, Emergency information
regarding doctor, hsopitals and
nearest relative for each child
is posted at the school,
Children are eligible for nursery school from age two years
nine months to Kindergarten
age. They may attend Monday‘Wednesday -Friday, TuesdayThursday, orallfive days, The
children are divided into two
groups each session; those who
will attend Kindergarten next
year are the “older group", the
others are the “younger group. "

after noon yesterday for a fire in the studio of
Bob Gilberg on Commercial Street. An electric
heater was turned on accidentially and materialon top caught on fire. The firemen quickly
