oe ra Truck spiils on Highway 20 A I A a I Pt CTE LT —— on ~ ‘A NEVADA CITY MAN, Tommy Bernhart Johnson, was driving this three axle tractor pulling a two axle log trailer west on Hwy. 20 above Nevada City Thursday when it ran off the highway near Omega rest area and rolled over. Johnson was taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital for emergency medical treatment. The tractor and trailer had major damage, according to the California Highway Patrol.Bank broken into—legally NO THIS ISN'T the great bank robbery -just employes of the Bank of America in Nevada City and city police chief James Moon breaking into the bank. This photo was taken this morning at Steve Ogilvie breaks a window on the side of the bank on Pine Street. The front door on Broad Street had a jammed lock and efforts failed to gain the employes’ entrance, Steadying the ladder for Ogilvie are another bank officer, Dale Branschcomb and Moon who is supervising the operations, In all it took about 45 minutes to break into the bank. Veteran affairs seeking disabled county Vets The California Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking disabled California veterans to participate ina unique education-job training program, Nevada County Veterans Service Officer John Kootstra announces. The California Veterans Home at Yountville, Napa county, currently has available adormitory type facility with 40 private rooms that will be assigned to any veteran who is interested in pursuing an educational objective. The veteran must first be either native born, entered service from California, or must have been a resident of the state for at least five continuous years. He must also have some degree of disability, but the disability does not have to be service-connected. If the veteran meets these requirements, he will be admitted to the home as a member of that facility. Arrangements have been made with. Napa College to enroll these . veterans in whatever vocational or academic program they may wish to pursue. At the Veterans Home all meals, room, medical ahd hospital care will be furnished-at no charge. The home has ample recreational facilities such as a putting green, 1,400 seat theater, Olympic size swimming pool, eight lane bowlng alley, card room, billiards room, library, and television room. ‘ : The veteran is not required to forfeit any money from any source, All that is asked is that the veteran have a sincere desire to attain some educational objective. He must carry at least 12 units and maintain a grade "C" average. Enrollments are for the school term beginning in September.
