Permits to build two private
school buildings were amongthe
68 building permits, with a total
valuation of $535,099, issued last
month by the Nevada County
Building and Inspection Department.
Forest Lake Christian School
obtained a permit to build a
three-r School house, valued
at $23,970, on Combie Road in
Lake of the Pines area, According to Ed Fellersen, county
superintendent of schools, Mrs.
Jean Shoellerman, will be the
teacher for the private school,
“Mrs. Shoellerman has teaching
credentials, and has operated a
school for approximately 20 elementary students in her home
for several years,
A permit to build a two-room
School house on Highway 49
North went to Oliver Milhous.
The proposed construction cost
is listed at $36,000. Fellersen
said Milhous conducts a special
‘education boarding school for
elementary students, and that
the county’ school department
Proposes to lease the Milhous
23,000 older
citizens get
tax assistance
SACRAMENTO — Some
23,000 California Senior Citizens have already received 1969
three million dollars, according
to Sen, Stephen P, Teale (DWest Point). He also issued a
reminder that Oct. 15, is the
filing deadling for the 1969
claims

the California Senior Citizens

Homeowner's Property Tax Relief Program which was the first

Lou Hartman dies
Flags were flown at half mast
over county and city buildings
Friday in memory to John L,
(Lou) H: chairman of the
Nevada County Board of Supervisors, who died Thursday. .
Mr. Hartman, 59, collapsed
from an apparent heart attack
while shopping in a local market about 5 p.m. He was taken
by ambulance to Sierra Nevada
Memorial Hospital, and doctors
worked over him enroute, to no
avail,
opposition to .a full four-year
term the following year. He
was appointed by Gov. Edmund
Brown to fill the vacancy from
district three left by the resignation of Neil Hennessey.

in the business and civic life
of the community for the past
20 years and has an outstanding record of community service. His knowledge

him admirably for membership

Mr. Hartman was born and
raised in Indiana, then moved
to Southern California and subsequently moved to Nevada
county 25 years ago. He operated insurance and grocery businesses, then worked for Mountain Chevrolet and later operated Hartman Chevrolet in Grass
Valley. For the past several
years, he has run Hartman's
Used Cars in Hills Flat.
He was a past exalted ruler
of Grass Valley Lodge of Elks,
past president of Bell Maywood
Rotary, member of Ben Ali
Shrine, Madison Lodge
F. & A, M., Grass Valley Sportsman's Club, past president of
the local auto dealers' association, active sponsor of Girl
Scouts and Red Cross and a
member of the United Methodist
Church of Grass Valley.
Survivors include his wife,
Vivian, of the Ridge Road area;
huheatie, B et t of Beverly King of
Santa Barbara and Linda Simms
of Sacramento; a sister, VirSe of Cocoa, Fla.; and
our grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m, Monday at the
United Methodist Church of
Grass Valley with the Rev. Evald
Leps offic Burial was
at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
In leu of flowers, donations
may be made tothe Lou Hartman
Memorial Fund at Nevada
General Hospital.
PT boat commander is
Constitution speaker
Commander Ted Robinson,
who was skipper of a PT boat
which helped rescue John F.
Kennedy during World War 0
will be guest speaker at the Constitution Day celebration scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 14.
This was disclosed to Grass
Valley Lions Thursday by William Lambert, chairman of the
Constitution Day event.
Robingson was described as
“a very patriotic speaker."" He
recently addressed Sons in Retirement here and reportedly
was well received.
He was skipper of PT boat
108 which was in the sameSouth
Seas operation as the PT boat
skippered by Kennedy.
The event, sponsored by Nevada Lodge of Masons, will include a parade, and units which
will participate include six
bands, a unicycle drill team
and comic fire brigade.
Eight couples will doa minuet,
and a local group wearing authentic colonial costumes will
