Disabled vets to get
compensation increase
Service-connected disability
compensation payments increase signed into law August
19 by President Johnson will
mean ‘approximately $20,800,000 in higher payments in 1969
to more than 175,000 California
disabled: veterans, Gordon R.
Elliott, Manager of the San
Francisco Veterans Administration Regional Office, said today.
Beginning January 1, 1969,
VA payments to California veterans with 100 per cent serviceconnected disabilities will be
raised from $300 to $400 a
month, Elliott said.
The increase for veterans
with service-connected disabilities rated 10 to 90 per cent will
average 8 per cent and will also
be effective the first of the year.
Currently, some 180,000 California service-disabled veterans are receiving $173,000,000
annually in VA compensation
payments.
Nationally, the new law, which
passed both the Senate and
House unanimously, will provide an estimated $235 million
in additional benefits the first
year to approximately 112,000
totally disabled veterans, and
1,840,000 veterans with serviceconnected disabilities rated 10
to 90 per cent, Elliott said.
For the year ending last June
30, the VA paid $1.954,000,000
in basic compensation benefits
2,011,000 service-disabled veterans.

NAC’s advice
to cyclists
The National Automobile Club
suggests these few safety rules
for all bike riders:
Don't carry riders, this is a
quick way to wreck your bike,
and cause injury to yourself and
your passenger.
Never hitch a ride on a car
or truck,
Walk across heavy traffic intersections.
Know the rules of the road,
give proper arm signals, it will
help keep the fenders on your
bike.
Keep your bike in good condition, Place a white light on
the front of your bike and a
red signal on the rear.
The greatest cause of accidents is speed.
Obey all traffic signals.
Always be alert and keep your
eyes and mind on the road.
Make turns from the proper
lanes at all times.
Keep to the right, and groups
should always ride in single file.
Always be courteous. Courtesy to others means safety to
all.

present to tell you about our very
own insurance program written
especially for mobile homes after two years of research on
problems applying to our homes
and not conventional ones, The
policies in effect for us prior
to this time were the old conventional home type hashed up
to try to meet our needs and
in many cases failed to do this
miserably.
We will be entertained after
our business meeting by the
residents of Stonegate Park and
refreshments will be served, so
please circle this date on your

Several new families have moved

other states, and it does cost
to move these homes, but again
so does it cost to ship a load
of furniture, so it's worth the
cost not to have to do all that
