THE 9TH MARINES, in Vietnam--Mail from home? It's the greatest! Just ask anyone in the 9th Marines. The. Leathernecks, now. serving near the demilitarized zone, anxiously await word from home--letters, post cards, or packages, Hometown newspaper, no matter how old they may be at the time they arrive, are most welcome, But the letters from home are:the big things for these Marines, Mail call is a rather special _ time every day, and the mail manages to reach the men no matter how far out in the "boonies" they may be at the moment. The Marines make every effort to write letters too, but the hot Vietnam days, coupled with military activities make it most difficult during the daytime. Most of the men are without electricity at night, so the letter writing generally must wait. Chaplain Richard Black has
been receiving special boxes _ of "goedies" from church groups in the United States. The packages--they contain cookies, candies and other homemade items --are distributed among the Leathernecks, who enjoy this taste of friendship from back home. Other church groups ship religious articles for distribution to the Marines. Knowing that someone back :home is thinking of them is good news to the men of the 9th Marines. i DeWitt receives accreditation Dr. John G, Freeman, medical director of DeWitt State Hospital, has announced that as the result of a survey conducted by the Joint Commission on Ac-> creditation of Hospitals, DeWitt has again received accreditation for a period of three years, It was a pleasure for Dr. Freeman to be able to make this announcement and he expressed his gratitude to all members of De Witt State Hospital for their efforts, The Joint Commission, made up of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, and the American Hospital Association, inspects all phases of hospital operation.
