It was Reagan’s desire to be

fierce defense of President
Nixon right down to the last
ditch. It certainly wasn’t any
great love for Nixon for he had
oppased his nomination in 1968.
But he now wanted desparately
for Nixon to finish out his term
so that the 1976 Republican
Presidential Convention would

similar to that of Nixon’s in 1968.
He recalled that his own

gather up the delegates long
before the convention was held.
Nixon did it by making himself
