and a tough early season
schedule could be trouble for
the foothill eleven.

Nevada Union
Miners To Open
Season In Gridley
GRASS VALLEY---The Nevada Union Miners open the
grid season Friday in a practice tilt with Gridley at
Gridley.
Varsity Coach Jim Guinn
predicts that some of the now
Starting players will be replaced and others must
“come of age" before he can
determine the Miners
chances for a championship
team. However he says that
the roughest game for the
Varsity team will be the last
game of league play when
the Miners meet with Los
Plumas on the home turf
Nov. 16.
Of course he adds that Los
‘Plumag' entire attack is based
on two players and that injuries could put the team in
the second division by the
time the season ends,
Guinn is again assisted by
Dan O'Neill and Jerry Stafford and the three hope to
form an eyen rougher and
tougher team than last season,
In the Junior Varsity the
outlook is even shakier with
many untried persons out for
the team. However Coach
Don F lath and his assistant
Bill Lawrence seem unperturbed by the lack of team
experience, They predict an
undefeated season if the
breaks come their way and
all the players continue to
play with the fire they have
had in pre-season practice,
The toughest league game
for the JV's will probably be
against the Oroville eleven.
That game will be played in
Oroville Saturday Oct, 20,
The complete schedulegame time for all games is
6 p.m. follows:
Sept. 14, Gridley, there;
Sept. 21, Chico, here; Sept.
28, --bye--Oct. 5, Placer*,
Auburn; Oct, 12, Marysville*, here; Oct. 20, Oroville*, there; Oct, 26,
Sparks, there; Nov. 2, Roseville*, here; Nov. 9, Yuba
City*, there; and Nov. 16,
Los Plumas*, here, *League
Games,
Designation of starting and
reserve team players will
probably be made about
Sept. 28 after the coaches
have seen the teams in action against Gridley and
Chico. At this time there
are more than forty players
out for each team,
