Cranston, who is running for his third term as controller, was the guest of honor Saturday night ata dinner in the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building. Brown and State transportation chief, Robert Bradford. This time, the city also brought the county into the picture and yesterday got the board of supervisors toagree to send messages tothe officials asking for an immediate meeting to set up work prior‘The Skids Are Greased’ ities on the job. Two weeks ago the Nevada City Council ‘sent telegrams to the governor and to Bradford deploring delays in the work and asking for an explaination. The following week
a large contingent of state engineers and lawyers, including LymanGillis, Bradford's assistant, appearedata special meeting of the city eeuncil.They explained that the state was watching the progress of contractor State Gears Up To Take Over The Freeway Work The State Division of Highways "has the skids greased "to move inthis week and take over the Nevada City freeway job. If all the pieces fall inthe foot of Broad Street in Nevada City points to the posting notifying freeway contractor Norman I, Fadel, Inc., that the state may take over the job in five days. The Division of Highways is expected to take over the project today. to place, work could be underway again by Oct. t. W.L. (Cont. on Page 20) Sharp Quake Rocks Homes In Twin Cities Area A rumbling, rolling earthquake rattled the Twin Cities area for several seconds Monday morning, but damage in the area was restricted mostly toa few falling objects in homes and businesses. Inthe eastern end of (Cont. on Page 20) Norman I. Fadel and if necessary the Division of Highways could move inand take over the job. Last Thursday the state posted a five day notice stating that unless substantial progress was shown, the state would take over. Monday night, the city council expressed fears that any extended delays incompetion of the Nevada City segment of the job would not only do more harm to the econ=omic life of the city, but unless priorities were established immediately to get cer=tain parts of the work done, early heavy rains, couldcause serious physical damage to the town. At the urging of City Councilman Lob Paine, the council agreed tosend off more telegrams to the state.
