will host its annual Tour of Notabjes Houses in Nevada City on
afternoon, September
24, when six houses and one
commercial building selected
\from the commission's roster
will be open to the public.
e roster coordinated early
in 196&has furnished subjects for
six conducted tours, It is comprised of more than fifteen
houses noteworthy for architec
tural design, for.history, for antiques and or restoration, The
September 24 tour will include
among others, the Engelbright
house, the Red Castle and the
Martin Luther Marsh house.

More Than Gold, relates the
story of Squire John Williams
and the history of the famous
house he built in 1857, Long
known as the Red Castle, the

Antiques contain notable examples of Americana.
The Martin Luther Marsh
house. built in 1873 is a classic
example of mid Victorian with
its multipaned cupola and its
fern filled conservatory. The
interior woodwork, exclusively
local sugar pine, was planed in
the original owner's lumber
mill, Restored in 1955, by
Marsh °s granddaughter Lucille
and her late husband James B.
Christie, it is one of the few
notable houses still the residence of the original owner's
descendants,
The September 24 tours will
depart 1-5 from the Artists Gallery 312 Commercial Street.
