AT HOME IN THE COUNTRY e. af _atietie New Barcé Classes Will Be Offered By Patricia Rose At Two Locations Nevada City and Penn Valley are soon to have their own dancing teacher. Patricia Rose, ofthe School of Creative Dance in Grass Valley, will start teaching in these two new locations next week, Berliner Urges Local Lawyers To Conference Harold A. Berliner, Jr., president of the Nevada County Bar Association, urged attendance of the membership at the California State Bar Convention Sept. 20-24 at the Hotel El Dorado in Sacramento. A number of Nevada County attorneys will be among the 800 delegates and alternates attending the conference of delegates which will consider 75 resolutions designed to improve the adminiStration of justice. Berliner said the conference will meet the opening two days of the State Bar convention. He urged that those planning to attend make reservations immediately. In addition to the conference, the convention agenda includes 11 panels on current developments in law. Several thousand other lawyers, judges, and their wives will attendthe convention, Besides the State Bar general meetings and panels, special groups and councils will convene during the five-day conclave. Over 3,000 are expected to attend the convention. Rennaisance Octet Will Open Concert Series _ The Twin Cities Concert Association will open its current concert season Sept. 25 with a performance by the Rennaisance Octet directed by Robert Gartler. Gartler, musical director of the Berkeley Salon of Music, will present the octet, a vocal ensemble of professional singers, in a program which will range from light to classical and will feature an aria from Gartler's Opera, “The Outcasts of Poker Flat, “ The Association has scheduled a performance of the San Francisco Boys Chorus for Oct. 24 in Grass Valley; folk singer and writer, Malvina Reynolds for Nov. 20 in Nevada City; violinist, Austin Reller for April 2 in Grass Valley and on May 7 a concert of local talent will be given in the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building. The appearance of the Rennaisance Octet Sept. 25 is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. in the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building. It is hoped that this expansion will help to serve these people and will help with some of the transportation problems of the area, Mrs. Rose has been teaching in this community for four anda half years and the quality of her students’ work has been favorably remarked on by a number of well qualified teachers. On Saturday, September 18 there will be an open house and demonstration in both Nevada City andPenn Valley. The public is invited to attend and those parents interested in having their children study dancing are especially urged to come and to register at this time. The program in Nevada City will be held at Seaman's Lodge in Pioneer Park from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The open house in Penn Valley will be held from 2:00 3:30 p.m. at the recreation hall at Penn Valley Mobile Homes, These are also the locations where the dance classes will be held. Lessons will be given right after school one day a week in each place. Also of interest to the general public are two new classes being formed*one of modern dance for high school students and one for mothers only. She is the first girl exchange student to attend the local high school since the local AFS Chapter was formed four years ago. She is residing with Mr. and Mrs. Jack B. Marshall of Meadow Drive and hopes to become a doctor or a lawver, > $ 2 ‘ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL children in the Twin Cities area had an unusual treat this week when 10-year-old Mexican dancer, Maria Elena Cerro Cano of Mexico City performed for them. The little girl, who specializes in folk and regional dances of her country, performed Monday and Tuesday for the local school children, She is staying here with her cousin, Mrs. Walter Huson of the Sunset District and is visiting as a representative of the children of Mexico to the children of the United States. Deer Hunters Cautioned Beginning on Saturday a large number of people will be hunting and camping once again on land
under the fire protection of the U.S. Forest Service. The fire danger stillranges from medium to high, and is increasing since the last rain storm. The U.S. Forest Service urges all persons hunting or camping in forested areas to use extreme care in building campfires and in smoking. The law requires that you obtain a campfire permit before building acampfire. Always clear an »~ County Humane Society Will Meet Tuesday The Nevada County Humane Society. will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the first floor conference room’ at the Nevada County Courthouse Annex, A meeting of the board of directors has been scheduled for 9 p.m. Members are asked to arrive promptly for the general membership meeting so that the business can be transacted and the director's meeting started. Friends of the organization and new members are also invited. Chapter Will Co!lect Books For The Troops The Grass Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is collecting paper back books to be sent to service men in Viet Nam. The books can be left at the Grass Valley public library and from there will be sent to Sacramento to the headquarters. For information call the Grass Valley public library. Mother Lode Bank Opens New Offices L. A. Raffetto, president of Mother Lode Bank, announces the forthcoming opening of its two new branches. The bank will move into its newly owned and constructed building located in the main business district in Twain Harte, with open house from 1:00 p. m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The new facility will be open for official business at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 20. The new building, which is of wood and brick construction, has an area of 2500 sq. ft., drive-up window, night depository, and parking spaces for 25 cars, Grant Hembree, formerly assistant manager of the bank's Folsom office, has been assigned to the position of manager of the Twain Harte Office. Thie Altaville Office, located in the Mark Twain Shopping Center in Altaville, Calaveras County, will comprise approximately 3200 sq. ft. The architecture of the exterior ofthe building is symbolic of '49-er decor. This office also provides drive-up teller window, night depository, and ample. parking space in conjunction with the Mark Twain Shopping Center. This office willhave open house from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 25 and will officially open for business at 10:00 a. m. Monday, September 27. Robert Chisman, who has been associated with the bank since January 1965 and is now living in Angels Camp, will be the manager of this office. Paul Sedler, who has been associated with the Grass Valley Office as operations officer, and a former resident of San Andreas, will be “assistant to Chisman. Positions For Six Postal Clerks Open In County The Post Office Departm ent has advised Congressman Harold T. (Bizz) Johnson, representing Nevada County, that it is receiving appHications for postal clerks in six Nevada Coynty post offices. Clerks are being sought at Cedar Ridge, Chicago Park, Norden, North San Juan, Rough and Ready and Soda Springs. The starting salaries of all would be $2.12 per hour with increases to a maximum of $2. 88 per hour. Examinations will be held in Reno and Marysville at a date yet tobefixed.
